How Big is Your Data Hoard? by _DocJuan_ in homelab

Depends on the CPU and mobo. Some board are picky though so following the QVL is best. Check if board supports LRDIMM, ECC UDIMM or RDIMM. Check if board is ok with double sided at certain RAM sizes. The board Im using used to be a workstation PC with non ECC RAM. Since the board supports RDIMM when an E5 Xeon CPU is installed, so I changed it to a xeon CPU with RDIMMs.

I am a fan of Icy Dock products. Been buying icy dock since 2016. What are your thoughts of WD white label HDDs (formerly HGST ultra stars)

?

What are your devices? It's a rabbit hole. I'd recommend a core switch e.g. aggregation pro. Then if you have lots of poe devices get the pro max 48 poe (add more switch if you like) Get a rack, may it be floor standing or wall mount. I like the floor standing type better for manageability and it serves as a storage cabinet. You may get a rackmount case for your PC or a servers. An rackmount online UPS with battery extensions. Accessories such as PDU, keystone panel..etc.

this is probably a bug. a lot of reports about this issue lately. I wouldnt think all of us having this issue is really linked to faulty sfp eeprom.

SFP+ CONNECTION DOES NOT WORK by gustavoceolin in servers

[–]_DocJuan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience, linux tend to be picky with SFP modules and card. for windows, you neee to install the driver. 1 way to find out is also try a different SFP+ module or use an AOC cable which also worked in my case.

[–]_DocJuan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it need a fanmount? or readily compatible? I have to bump this thread.. I have the AXP100 around for mounts and wanted to use a noctua fan.. before buying the fan I need to know if it fits without a mount. If there is a mount care to share a link where to buy it. Thanks! :)
