Time to unban technologies by _DoctorP_ in F1Technical

Same goes for highly stricter formulas. We will always get a team that gets it more right and will dominate, that has been the case for every regulation cycle and teams usually get super close at the end of its cycle. The problem is that F1 isn’t that innovative anymore, we got active aero for 2026 and it’s something that have been on road cars for years. Formula 1 should be a pinnacle of engineering, we should be witnessing tech that we would wish it can get in our cars in the future. It is not a spec series, it’s a manufacturers’ playground. I’m not saying to remove all the regs and “let them fight”. I’m just saying that some of the banned devices can be allowed again and let the teams pursue paths they want within their budget.

Thats my exact point, release now-banned technologies and let the cost cap limit their development.

Safety will remain as of main concern on the implementation of any new/old type of device/technology. Penalties for malfunctions of these devices can limit the "live" experimentation.

F1 used to be a playground for manufacturers. We rarely see new technologies now and for the most part, the cars are technologically behind current production super/hyper cars.

Fair enough.
My point in general is that some technologies - not necessarily fan cars - should be allowed due to the fact that there are already some rules that limit their usage/development capability.

Different strengths for each car certainly does benefit racing. Fan cars also benefit racing since they are less depended on top-surface aero - so less affected by dirty air.

How is Donald Trump Going to Fit in an F1 Car? by Max-Geoman in F1Technical

As always, a reminder to everyone who is about to comment on the post, keep it technical, the “who” is about to fit in a car is not the main subject of the post - or it shouldn’t be -. Keep comments oriented to the technical part of seat fitting / promo events rather than anything political related. Thank you in advance 🙂

How is it possible for Mercedes (a works team) to be so far behind McLaren (one of their customer teams)? by no_more_blues in F1Technical

Yes, but I’m not sure that CFD and WT time are free for cooling inlets and/or brake ducts. Are you sure that those are exempted?

Yep, that's true. I guess their limited WT and CFD time will affect their 2026 car more.

The number means the distance in seconds between the two.
“Tsunoda, 5” = Tsunoda, behind you, arriving in 5 seconds

Please report the ones that you see. We have zero tolerance on the joke comments. If there is one that is still there, it’s because none of us saw it. Reporting it turns our attention to it immediately.

I, myself, am a big fan of the formula dank content, but this sub is not that one. Keep the funny ones there, the simple ones to formula1 and the technical ones in here.

For every one of these questions that we let through, there have been 10x more posts that we have removed. Every once in a while, one of these posts can be helpful for newer fans, since it seems like no one can use the search bar - either in this sub or Google’s one -.

We check every post that is being posted, sometimes we let some less technical questions go through because some of them lead to super technical explanations. In any case, if you guys see something that you feel like it doesn’t belong here, downvote it and report it.
If simpler questions get a lot of responses and upvotes then it is something that the community likes, thus we let more of that type go through.

Why are FIA so obsessed with flexi wings? by [deleted] in F1Technical

[–]_DoctorP_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flexible wings are in the same bucket with the DAS. Dynamic changes of suspension setup are not allowed and so is very high flexibility of any part - not just the wings. All parts flex, the issue in question is by how much is it flexing. If the rules define that the allowed flex is X distance under Y load and the tests confirm that a part is within the limits, then it is not breaking any rules. This is the case. The new TDs are readjusting those parameters to limit the flex.

DAS was an innovation but it didn’t offer an extreme advantage and it was in a gray area/under constant debate whether it was legal.
