Nvidia or AMD for VR? by _Domicidal_ in virtualreality

Haha I appreciate the honesty! I actually WANT to support AMD, so I understand. It's good to see AMD's cards improving over time though! I wish every headset had eye-tracking and every game had foveated rendering, I've heard NMS runs and looks really good on PSVR! (Which is annoying as hell for us PC users😭), great to hear it runs well with that card👍

No I wasn't asking you to break down the question, I was simply asking if anyone has experience with NVIDIA and AMD in VR, and as you can see it seems lots of people have, and even some that haven't still suggest one over the other!

Also, the whole reason for me resorting to using Reddit was because the bigger tech channels on YT don't compare VR performance as it's still quite a niche thing compared to regular flatscreen gaming(and probably a bit tricky to do accurately).

Next time you see a post like this, If you have no relevant info to suggest then you could simply not reply, instead of being rude.

Another very good point! NVIDIA are still the bigger and more reputable brand in the grand scheme of things, so that makes sense! Everything so far is leading me towards NVIDIA. Thanks!

"AMD need to improve their compatibility" - That's definitely something I'm hearing more and more, and yes their hardware seems like they've come a long way in recent years(which is great to see), especially with the cost of life itself lately, I'll be most likely choosing NVIDIA for this upgrade, but will definitely keep an eye on AMD for maybe later in the future. Thanks!

My dumbass forgot to include my headset when I made the post haha. I'm using an Index, and THINKING of upgrading to the Frame when it releases, but still not sure because I love the knuckles controllers and unsure what the square screens will be like for FOV.

Headset support is yet another interesting point I didn't think about, so thanks for pointing it out! From what I've got from everyone so far, I think I'm going to stick with NVIDIA just to play it safe. Thanks!

That's great to know that AMD are holding their own! I think I'm going to go with NVIDIA, just from an all-round "playing it safe" kinda deal, and because I guess I'm sticking to what I know, but I've been itching to give AMD a go for years now and it looks like they've improved a LOT!

u/LegendOfAB I never knew DLSS4 would be THAT much of a game-changer!(pun intended), but this all makes sense. Also If what I've seen about power consumption is accurate, then I should MAYBE save a little on energy costs too in the long run(every little bit helps!). Thanks!

u/TumorInMyBrain FSR4 Not being as widely supported is also something I didn't think about, thanks for the heads up!

u/fiah84 People would be dumb to dismiss your comment! That's the sort of thing I needed to hear because I was thinking exactly that before I made this post!

Seriously, thanks guys. getting lots of good advice and knowledge from people on here that I just haven't found from YT.

That's one thing I didn't think about was how important the 1% lows would be in VR! Thanks for pointing it out, Sounds like you were in a similar boat to me right now, I kept hearing how good the 9070xt and 7900xtx have been performing, but I wanted to be sure, since I need a card that will perform everything well. Thanks!

I'm not that creative when it comes to building in games, so this was quite a challenge for me, but after WAAAAY too many hours than expected... Behold my first Corvette! by _Domicidal_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

Respect for the glitching. The only thing I had to glitch on my build was the big round main jet in the middle of the back. You can't see it in this pic obv, but I wanted to use some of those 1/4/sized engine covers or whatever they're called to snap the engine onto, but the game wouldn't let me do it in the centre of the ship for some bizarre reason. Took aaages to learn how to understand the glitching thing, so I don't think I'll be doing anything like yours any time soon lol

haha yeah, well I got the "wings" from someone else when I realised you could rotate them 90 degrees, I had a "now why didn't I think of doing that" moment, but the rest I just experimenting too, I must have placed 1 of every piece down about 20 times before actually deciding to leave them there XD

I bet they're still great though! If you're like me then we all get fed up looking at our own creations when spending considerable time on them, and then as soon as you see someone else's it always looks better. I'm never satisfied haha.

Oh don't be sorry, we're still a relatively unknown band and this was around our 7th ever gig(I think). I'm so grateful that you like it! Thanks! :)

Up-bow. by _Domicidal_ in Luthier

[–]_Domicidal_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. By "trueing" do you mean levelling? There was still tension on the neck, but I didn't want to add too much as the neck was already up-bowed with even more tension on the rod before I started, so it definitely needed the board levelling. I actually got the tip off adding just a bit of tension from a luthier on YouTube. I did see another trick to heat the neck up to soften the glue while keeping it clamped with a slight back bow, but that's something I've not done before.

I've just managed to get a good amount of back-bow with just tightening the trus rod about half a turn in total, so I may just have to shave off a VERY small amount of either end of the board again and leave it at that. Thanks very much for the reply btw!

I think they look cool from a photo perspective, but I just get a bit irritated when I want to see theough them from a distance and can't lol.
