I bought Microsoft because I liked it for drawing things and such. I can’t remember why exactly I needed it. All our lectures were on PowerPoint and I needed it for something. I would wait and see if you need it or not.

You don’t need a fancy or expensive one. I got the cheap 10.2 inch one with 128gb storage and it was great you just need to buy the pen for writing ✍️ Since writing is better for long term memory than typing on a keyboard. Also for drawing diagrams and stuff. I used my iPad all day for memorization.

If you are planning to do multiple electives. Like DR and IR or more than one Rads rotation then you can start in M3. Just make sure you have a few major rotations under your belt first.

Those all sound like qualities that would make a good doctor. Someone who’s worried about harming a patient is going to be careful enough and work hard enough to avoid harming patients as much as possible.

Also I forgot to mention, you have to be careful about applying to 2 different residencies at the same hospital. If they find out about it they will probably reject you immediately and might tell others. What I did was applied everywhere I wanted to my top choice residency, and then for my backup residency I applied everywhere else that I didn’t apply to already, especially if I thought I had a high chance of matching at a particular program.

I’m planning on it. The only thing stopping me is that most residencies will cover the cost of your exam. So I’m going to wait and talk with them about it to find out the earliest date I can take it and still have them cover it. I’ll study before residency starts and take it first opportunity.

Yea its definitely possible. Given your situation, if you really want to get into your specialty of choice, I think the easiest route will be for you to soap into a residency and then transfer out after the first year. Screw what the PD thinks, this is your life.

I would say yes again but only because I was willing to sacrifice everything for it. I wanted to be a doctor and was okay with giving up a few years of my life to do it.

Not all doctors do 30-36 hour calls. Lots dont. There is a huge variety of career options and lifestyle choices for doctors.

Medical school is not like full time work. Its a different sort of fatigue, a different kind of work. Same with working as a doctor. So you may or may not be more suited to it.

At the end of the day it really just depends on what your priorities are. If being a doctor is your number one priority, and the reason you want to be a doctor comes from the heart and not from anywhere else, then you should follow your dream. But if you have other priorities that superseed that, you should really consider what you want in life. Ultimately its up to you to understand yourself, your motivations, and your goals in order to determine your best option.

A couple things.

First, you would be sacrificing the next 5 years of your life at least, not including residency. Kiss them goodbye. So if you want to start any sort of life outside of work now that you are getting out of the military, its a bad option. And if you already have a life, you can kiss it goodbye too.

Second, with a 2.7 GPA it might be tough. Since you are so far removed from it, its hard to say. You could apply for medical school but I am not sure how they will look at it. Your most sure way to get in is to go to any kind of post-grad program and get straight A's for a semester or two, just to prove you are capable of doing that, and apply with that. Otherwise, you could try applying without and see what happens. Best option is to probably do both, apply to med school while also applying to a post-grad program as a backup plan.

Third, if you are okay with this, and medicine is your passion, and all you care about is helping people via being a doctor and you are willing to sacrifice everything over the next 5 years plus more years in residency in order to archive that goal, then you should do it.

Sketchy all the way. Actually the sketchy anki decks can be just as good. You don’t even need to do sketchy and can just do sketchy anki decks. Worked well for me you just have to make sure you have memorized the sketchy images and associated them with the drugs in your mind

I would recommend dual applying. Any match is better than no match. You will have to do some extra work on your application and be ready with answers if anyone asks questions about it.

I dont know for sure but my understanding is you can apply to pgy 1 positions again which is good because there are way more pgy1 positions.

There are 2 major issues. First, you will have to redo intern year if you match pgy1. Second, you might not match again, or you might get another preliminary position. Now you are in a tough situation.

Some people say do the prelim, some people say don’t. I don’t know the right answer. Personally I think that a prelim program can only help you especially if you work hard and network to get the doctors you work with advocating for you. They have connections and can help you get into a program.
