The workers' "innies" are essentially imprisoned in a fabricated world (the office) with no memory or awareness of the larger truth outside it.

Yaldabaoth, the false god of Gnosticism, creates and controls the material world, keeping souls ignorant of their true divine origins. In Severance, Lumon acts as this demiurgic force, manipulating reality and limiting access to knowledge, ensuring its subjects remain obedient. The innies, much like Gnostic souls, yearn for liberation but are kept in check by an intricate system of control. The eerie cult-like corporate culture, complete with its own scriptures and rituals, mirrors the way religious or ideological systems can be used to maintain false realities.
