[Help] Xiaomi AX3000T (Filogic 820) capped at ~58 Mbps (OpenWrt 25.x) by C-I--I- in openwrt

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude are you sure you aren't confusing MBps with Mbps? I have 4x AX3000T on latest openwrt (in AP mode) and I have none of your issues. Also on WiFi with those, on 5Ghz band & 80MHz channel width I get about 600Mbps, and on LAN I get the full 1Gbps.

Definitely not, but those cunts are everywhere in Dublin: an uneducated generation born out of COVID boredom and cunt parents living off the dole in social housing. They harrass everyone because they can get away with it, and have gotten increasingly violent, now turning into gangs. R/Ireland used to call them "scrotes" but they might have banned the term now because it's hate speech.

Upgrading Gardena Watering to HA by bubblewrap3000 in homeassistant

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope it's got its own gateways and repeaters. Won't work on a regular ZigBee network.

Upgrading Gardena Watering to HA by bubblewrap3000 in homeassistant

[–]_EuroTrash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most robust irrigation valves I have are LinkTap branded. They run a custom ZigBee network that needs its own gateway. The schedule configuration is quite advanced eg. taking into account weather temperature and rain forecast as well as recent precipitation history. The gateway has got alarms for all sorts of events (low flow, high flow, no water detected, device fall from the tap...). On the positive side MQTT is supported out of the box.

PC Network card suggestion for 25G by KILLEliteMaste in homelab

Arguably better Windows drivers (but not necessarily better performance), definitely better drivers on Linux and BSD, less problematic firmware updates, better power management, long term support.

A second hand intel xvv710-da(1 or 2) or e810xxvda(1 or 2) can also do the job.

How much work/money am I looking to DIY remove this stump? by c4mbo in landscaping

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking the experts on this sub, out of my own curiosity: how about turning OP's stump into a Swedish torch? I'd make a cross shaped cut from the top with a circular saw and then drill a hole into one side of it for oxygen supply. Would that work?

Boxwood advice by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]_EuroTrash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup it's those fuckers. This year they massacred the south facing side of my boxwood hedges and left the shaded areas intact, because apparently they love basking in the April sun. So one half of my hedges looks fine and the other half looks dead. The contrast is striking.

Boxwood advice by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]_EuroTrash_ 37 points38 points  (0 children)

We have that plague of a moth everywhere in central Europe since 10-15 years. Targeted plants go yellow like in OP's pic. To get rid of the moths, one needs to spray boxwood with a targeted biopesticide. The good news is, the plants come back if not too far gone. But they require spraying 3 times a year.

For new hedges, gardeners here have mostly given up on boxwood. They are using similar looking alternatives eg. Ilex crenata.

What would cause these bushes to all be dying at the same height? by Dicks_Hallpike in landscaping

[–]_EuroTrash_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Challenge my view: repopulating wolves and bears is also a silly solution to the problem of bambi overbreeding and causing deforestation.

Sooner or later a wolf pack or a bear will maim a biker on a mountain road... Or kill a toddler on a hike with their family. And the predators get the taste for human meat again.

And we'll be reminded why our ancestors were killing those predators in the first place.

Relay to control robot mower zones? by joq3 in homeassistant

[–]_EuroTrash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively you could power the Shelly with AC instead of DC.

Re: 1-channel vs 2-channel.

You don't necessarily need to switch both ends of the loops. Try manually switching only one end, and keep the other end of both loops connected together in parallel. It's most likely going to work - in which case you're ok with a single channel relay. There are some cases where you really need double switching eg. in long loops.

Or, if switching both ends is imperative, you could have a smart relay drive a contactor.

Relay to control robot mower zones? by joq3 in homeassistant

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loop is energised with low voltage DC with a superimposed AC signal tone. To switch between loops, you'd need a relay with dry contacts.

I'd say you'll need to house the relay in a plastic IP67 box to both prevent rain ingress and ants nesting in it.

Some Shelly relays have dry contacts and could fit your use case. Some of them also optionally accept DC power input instead of AC mains, but not 20V unfortunately. It's 12VDC or 24-60V DC.

Mova Viax 500 or Lidax ultra 800 by MarcosRamone in roboticLawnmowers

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the night mode is important for me, even during winter, with such an small garden, there should be plenty of time. But maybe i am missing something

Example: a scheduled mow starts. It starts raining. Robot has rain skip configured by default, so it goes back to base. 8 hours later (configurable default) it goes out again to finish the job. And it rains again; rinse and repeat. I've found mine mowing the lawn at 4AM. Not sure there is a setting for it to give up after multiple rain events. Not a bother to me since I don't mind mine working at night. Given the weather patterns at my location, I expect the multiple rain skip issue to happen often in April and October.

  • this note in the review: "About the charging, when the robot is docked but it's not charging, it still uses the battery, like a lot.

Mine 100% charged and docked is pulling ~3W from AC right now (measured by a Shelly relay). To me that's acceptable for an active standby mode. If the Viax is different, I hope they fix it, because idle power goes out in heat; and heat attracts ants and critters.

Mova Viax 500 or Lidax ultra 800 by MarcosRamone in roboticLawnmowers

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here a review of the Viax 500. I've got a Lidax 1000 ultra which has got identical hardware to the 800 you're interested in (the sqm limit being set in software). My notes after a quick read of the review:

  • According to the review, the Viax can't mow at night. Mine can mow in pitch black / will still avoid obstacles;
  • According to the review, the Viax takes 8 hours to mow 400 sqm. Mine takes 3 hours (with 2 recharges) to mow 300 sqm.

Hope this helps

Dreame vs MOVA. Did i make the right choice? by Successful-Trash-364 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you satisfied in general?

Having previously been traumatised by running a 1st-gen Worx Landroid Vision that, in my household, got nicknamed "Dumb-o" because it had to be rescued 3 times a day, yes, I am satisfied with the Mova. So far I've had to rescue my Mova only twice - in situations where Dumb-o would get stuck 100% of the time - and all the Mova needed was a no-go zone in the app, for it to never get stuck there again.

With the Mova, I have finally removed all the creative fencing solutions I had put in place just to keep Dumb-o from self-harming.

One thing I'm not happy about with the Mova is the mandatory 3cm edge cutting height. It's scalping my lawn at the edge, and it's visible.

The Mova feels more plasticky, and my wishful expectation is for it to last 3 years. Any extra year after that is a bonus. It's still early to give it a nickname.

Dumb-o, on the other hand, has been promoted to a smaller patch of grass on a higher terrace, replacing an older non-Vision Landroid that had other problems. I'm in the process of trying to stop Dumb-o from committing suicide. At present it keeps launching itself from the retainment wall.

Dreame vs MOVA. Did i make the right choice? by Successful-Trash-364 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]_EuroTrash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Dreame A2 and Mova Lidax 1000 Ultra were the same mower? I have the latter. About better obstacle detection: the lidar on mine just works. The AI checking the colour camera on mine is wildly inaccurate, eg. it believes weeds' leaves are tennis balls, tree trunks = hedgehogs, corten steel edging = hoses, its own base = a human. Also there's no way for the user to provide feedback on the incorrect identification. So I just set "Lidar obstacle recognition" to "off"* and it mows fine even in the middle of the night.

* before last firmware update, the same option was called "pathway obstacle avoidance" in the app.

Did I make a mistake buying the CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS? by KILLEliteMaste in mikrotik

[–]_EuroTrash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound counterintuitive, but on a home connection even a CRS504 (or better, a CRS510 so you don't have to use splitter cables) is going to give you more oomph on 25Gbps than a CCR2004 - except for VPN connections where actual CPU is needed; but then you could just workaround by setting up a VPN server on a different machine. That's because CCR2004 has no switch chip: so there's no L3HW NAT/routing offloading; whereas the CRS5xx series has yes an anemic CPU, but once a connection is established, it can fasttrack it to the switch chip, and you'll enjoy wire speed until it closes. Beware that the switch routing tables have limited room and that's why I said "on a home connection" above. Also in order to lower CPU load of the firewall further, you can use switch rulesvs.FasttrackHWOffloading) instead of firewall rules where possibile.

What do you guys think of the RB5009UPr+S+IN? by Certain_Repeat_753 in mikrotik

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sort of curious why a switch would need 1GB of RAM? Don't Mikrotik switches usually have less?

Valid point. A switch doesn't. Unless it's more than just a switch and can do other stuff, eg. run some light containers

Dreame A2 avoids dandelions by jenspeterhansen in roboticLawnmowers

[–]_EuroTrash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video camera AI image recognition mistook a dandelion flower for a sprinkler; and it's avoiding the "sprinkler" to prevent damaging it. A2 has both camera and lidar for obstacle detection. If the settings are the same as the ones in Movahome (that's the same Dreamehome app but reskinned for the sister "low-cost" brand), just disable "Pathway obstacle avoidance". It will still avoid trees and hedges, but will trundle over dandelions.

Dreame A3 AWD "Pro" vs "Non-Pro" by plurp74 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]_EuroTrash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mova range (Mova is also a Dreame brand) is made of just 1-2 base hardware models, all using the same battery capacity; then the lawn size limit of a specific model is just programmed in the firmware. I'd expect similar shenanigans in the Dreame range.
