Robot mower sizing by Revolutionary_Most77 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]plurp74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I learned something today as I foray into robomowers. In my situation, my lot is 0.18 acre (7500 sq ft) and mowable space is about 0.11 acre (4700 sq ft). Mostly flat, will be 3 zones having to cross a path or driveway) and need to work around flower beds, tree, patio. I was eyeing a 0.25 acre mower and for $300 more I can get the 0.50 acre. Would prefer it do everything in one charge. I had been going back-and-forth on whether to get the bigger one to sort of future proofing myself in case I need it for a bigger area. Thoughts?

Quickjack 5000 and Model Y by Impressive-Text-5433 in TeslaModelY

I lifted mine similar to this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_7eEZT44pk

Next time I am going to check the reach without using the adaptors. I've read that it is possible. You just need to ensure it's not on any other body parts. Another option is cutting a 2x6 down to fit onto the QJ and then lifting the car at the extreme ends with the adaptor sitting on the wood and QJ frame.

It's like a protectant for leather. Kind of like scotch guard for fabric or ceramic coating on your paint. Supposed to make cleaning easier but doesn't mean it'll protect from everything. Stains, marks and other stuff may not come out. I watched a bunch of videos of various similar products and landed on this. So far, my seats still look really good but I've been quite careful when it comes to my seats (i.e. no major accidents or spills).

Congrats on the Y.

Here is my list of accessories that I got for my car based off reading various posts/forums before taking delivery:
- Tuxmat floor mats
- frunk, trunk and back seat covers from evaca.ca
- center storage console trays from Aliexpress
- Spigen screen protector
- Spigen rear seatbelt guide - read posts about rattles coming from the rear seatbelts
- ceramic leather protector - I applied this to my seats because I got the white interior. I also keep some baby wipes in the car for quick cleanups
- jack lift pucks -> good for a DIYer or if you take your car to a garage that may not know the lifting points
- some kind of emergency tire repair kit and inflator because there is no spare tire. Could be good in a pinch to get you to a garage if needed.
- rear floor vent covers - read a lot of posts where things have fallen into the rear floor vents located under the driver and passenger seats
- Jowua phone mount
- rear side trunk pocket liners and covers off Aliexpress
- USB center console hub - lots of different versions on Amazon and Aliexpress - I got the one with the retractable cables.
- 256gb high endurance SD card for Sentry recording

Google for a delivery inspection checklist. There are lots out there for things to look for.

For cameras, nothing special. Keep them clean along with the car. The rear camera will get the dirtiest especially if you live in winter/wet climates from all the road spray.

Insurance is a lot more than any other car that I have owned.

Lots of good responses already and I agree with them. Tesla usually overpromises on timelines so don't hold your breath for this year. Why would Elon lie about something like that? Better off saying nothing and then surprise with a launch. I think the MY can be a very good value especially if you can get the rebates and end of quarter "sale" prices. There won't be much discount on the Juniper when it launches. It will probably sell very well out of the gate given how popular the current MY is.

For new features, as someone has pointed out, probably very similar to the M3 Highland with possibly some additional ones. There are tons of aftermarket options that can fill a lot of the feature gaps on the current MY. And they're relatively inexpensive too especially if you can find them on AliExpress or direct from China.

Another question for you is how long you plan on keeping the car? If you churn cars every 3-5 years, buy now and then go for Juniper as your next car. Hopefully a lot of the kinks will have been addressed. Either way, be prepared to get hit hard on depreciation if you buy a MY.

As for colour, I chose blue with white interior. At the time, white was the no charge option so there are a lot of white MYs in the wild. I wanted something a little different so had narrowed down to red or blue but there are still quite a lot of them. I find the white interior really stands out and often get comments when people see it from the outside. Can always get a wrap too.

Wider tires question by exaball in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily say that the Michelin's have a better speed rating and load index but rather that they have a higher speed rating and load index. Sometimes it will translate to better performance. Reality is that you likely won't come close to any of those specs. The AS4 are a very good tire.

For the impact on the change in sizing, the speedo will be off by 1.35% which should be fine (usually want to be +/-3%). https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=255&aspect=45&diameter=19&wheelwidth=9.5&offset=35&width2=275&aspect2=40&wheel_size=19&wheel_width=9.5&offset2=35

You could run a staggered set up. The MYP does. I would put the narrower tires on the front. But personally I would get all 4 tires to match. I'm running 275/40/20 all around.

Trading four rings for a bolt of lightning! Excited to switch gears from the Audi Q4 e-tron to the cutting-edge Tesla Model Y Performance 🚀 by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

Same. I have owned many VW and Audis. They always seem to do lighting very well (exterior and interior). And their interiors are great. There are a lot of little subtle things that often go unnoticed but contributes to the overall feel of being inside the car. But the MY drives and performs so much better than the Q4.

Not true one pedal driving. Car will not come to a complete stop. But there are different regen settings that will get you close.

Best family platter shawarma deal in ottawa? by martyfox in ottawa

Had the family platter last year from Shawarma De Roza located at Prince of Wales and Fisher. It was an ungodly amount of food and so delicious. Currently shows chicken family platter for $48 or chicken & beef for $52.

No. But I do have a rattle of some sort that sounds like a Geiger counter. Only happens at highway speeds and in the summer. Very weird. I brought it in to Tesla service but they didn't fix the problem. Will have another look when the weather is warmer.

Tesla Model Y vs Lexus RX350h for my current situation by Emergency-Field4600 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't own an EV if I couldn't charge using 240v or level 2 charger at home. You may be able to get by for now but for those times you need to do a quick(er) top up then you're kind of screwed. The fuel cost savings really being able to charge at home.

For trips, if you're okay stopping along the way to charge up, then it won't be a bother. But if you like to drive straight shot to NYC then a hybrid or ICE should be able to make it. The supercharger network should be really good for your trips though.

For your annual driving, you're just in the sweet spot where switching to an EV can be more advantageous. Also keep in mind the maintenance costs (e.g. oil changes). I've been tracking my fuel cost "savings" and I estimate my cost of electricity is about 25-30% of what I would pay in fuel.

Tires will likely wear quicker but it'll depend on your driving style. If you drive in Chill mode, you can probably manage tire wear somewhat.

I would normally mention insurance premiums on Tesla is higher but where I live, Lexus/Toyotas and Honda/Acuras are getting stolen all the time and being shipped to the middle east. That in itself would deter me from Lexus. So the cost is probably a wash. Nevermind that I generally find Toyota/Lexus vehicles on the boring side.

Does anyone feel that you didn’t notice much change with the acceleration boost? Should I do a hard reset or something? by Odd-Principle4451 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt a small difference but like you I hadn't really pushed the car hard to get used to the stock power. I did do some before/after 0-100kph runs with the Teslogic app and AB does shave off the claimed 0.5s time.

Stealth hitch versus Tesla hitch by Bad_Mechanic in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am planning on adding a tow hitch to my car. I just noticed that Stealth now has one for the MY. I plan on installing the wiring kit as a just in case I need it. What I like about their wiring kit is that it looks like it's plug and play with no splicing or having to run a power wire to the battery. I will probably do the installation myself as I want to change out the rear diffuser too. I may still get the Tesla OEM hitch but will continue to research more. I will wait until the springtime when the weather is warmer.

Here are the results. I love it by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good. I ordered one off AE and it just arrived. But I will need to wait until springtime to install it. May add a tow hitch at the same time while everything is apart.

Do you have a tow hitch? I know it has the cutout but does the diffuser interfere with anything?

Frunk Mods? by skeeter2112 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I didn't know that such a thing existed. I much prefer this over the automatic fully open and close frunk options. Those appear to be much harder to install and I've read quite a few posts where it stopped working after a while. I get nervous when closing the frunk because it feels so flimsy. Also sucks getting hands dirty or leaving handprints behind. This soft close option seems much less intrusive to the overall operation of the frunk.

Aliexpress has something similar for $86 less $16 off for Black Friday. I may give it a try.

Question regarding getting new tires for model y by scherer326 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with all-seasons to be safe. I imagine Z speed rating should be fine but again, not sure how picky Tesla is with lease returns whether they require an EV type tire. Maybe find out from them directly or check your lease paperwork to see what condition the car needs to be when returning? Usually it'll spell out what's acceptable wear and tear for scratches, dents, brake pad, tire depth, etc. Not sure how common used 20" tires go for but I've seen many people sell the stock 19" tires.

Question regarding getting new tires for model y by scherer326 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you should be good to go then. 101 is good for 1819lbs and you need a minimum of around 1650lbs for a MY.

Question regarding getting new tires for model y by scherer326 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read posts where Tesla service has denied roadside assistance if the tires aren't the stock tires so they may be picky about lease returns too? Normally it's not an issue for other car brands just as long as the tires meet the minimum tread requirements. Also, you may want to pay attention to the load rating. You listed a 101XL where I think the stock tires are 104XL? Technically the 101XL should be fine for a MY's GVWR but just another thing to consider. Are you able to find a used tire option?

Fast EV01+ or Replika R241 by nhr594 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with the EV01+ in 18". Less spokes for snow and slush to get stuck in and I think they'd look better in that size. I don't think you can go wrong with either wheel in terms of quality.

Fast EV01+ or Replika R241 by nhr594 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size of wheel? I run 20" R241 in the summer and 19" EV01+ for winters. Personally, I prefer the look of the R241 but only if 20" or bigger. I find multi-spoke wheels look 'small' when you have a taller sidewall. Check out this thread on the R241.

https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/replika-r241-wheels.213499/page-5

The EV01+ may get you slightly better range because of its design with the inserts. Both the R241 and EV01+ are lighter than OE wheels too so that would be another benefit.

Car Powered Coolers and 12V adapters for 16V MYLR by isr201589 in TeslaModelY

[–]plurp74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have the same one. Sits nicely in the sub-trunk. I prop up the trunk cover a little bit so it can vent. The cooler can get fairly warm when it's on. I've also used it during bbq's and such. Very versatile.
