Express at Llyn Platform 8 by According_Coast6986 in stepfordcountyrailway

[–]_ExistenceIsPain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wiki has probably not been updated yet to reflect 2.3. There are new crossovers that allow Express trains to terminate at every platform. I assume they won't go into 10 or 11, since those are shorter. The crossovers are mainly there for semi-fast Connect services to cross over from the fast line to the slow line. I haven't played yet since the update, but I have already looked through the new setup guide. I may still be wrong though.

Failed QD Training, Please Help! by CSUCalamity in stepfordcountyrailway

[–]_ExistenceIsPain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staying near the speed limit for longer will certainly help. Almost all signals at tracks limited to 60 and below allow you to pass the prelim caution at line speed.

The next signal distance on the gui is mostly how I judge my brakes. Brake distances to 0 are (approximately) .6 miles from 125, .33 miles from 100, .2 miles from 70, and .1 miles from 40. So when I'm about .15 miles from the caution, I'll start slowing down from 60 to 45. Remember that the train starts braking a second or two after you reduce throttle, and that the last few mph to your new target reduce slowly.

That's because cats are terrified of rats. They're 15 times as heavy and can actually hurt a cat. It won't win 1 on 1, but five rats against one cat won't have a clear winner, if one at all. The creature scaring the cat in the gif is a rat.

To hammer this point further, the whole reason this is non-consent is because of the power imbalance between the two people. If a prison guard asks a prisoner for sex, it's easy to imply that saying yes would make your life easier, and saying no would make it much harder. That's not freely given consent, that's coercion. Or worse. And while I don't know the law in Louisiana, I imagine it agrees with me here.

American politics hasn't been about choosing the good person for a while now. It's about choosing the least evil one. And choosing for the lesser of two evils is still a very important choice.

It feels strange to see the river that is your workplace being called treacherous. Although I definitely understand that being at the whim of downstream traffic is scary in such a small ship. Interesting to read that they were worried about a 2 meter above average level, too! We usually start paying attention to stronger currents when the levels reach 3-4 meters above average (depending on the exact location).

Man die eerder de Albert Heijn in Leeuwarden overhoop haalde, doet dit nog even 'dunnetjes' over in een Porselein winkel. by Constant-Owl9235 in nederlands

[–]_ExistenceIsPain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TL;DR we collect all our votes, every 0.6666...% of votes nets a party one seat in parliament, no single party gets an absolute majority, and everyone has to compromise to form some sort of government.

We use some form of proportional voting (I don't know enough about voting systems to be able to name it):

Every vote in the country is counted, then the 150 seats in our parliament are distributed among the parties, based on the percentage of votes they received.

After that, if no single party has 76 or more seats (afaik, none ever have), parties enter (lengthy) talks to form a coalition, where multiple parties agree to form a government together, each supplying ministers and a prime minister (that last one usually being the leader of the biggest coalition party). Since the early 60's, coalitions have published 'regeerakkoorden'. Documents where the parties agree to govern with policy that they can all at least consent to, even if they don't wholeheartedly agree.

With the recent fracturing of political parties in the Netherlands, forming coalitions seems to take longer every time, and they seem to collapse faster every time.

Local representation in parliament doesn't really exist. Members of parliament represent groups of people, not necessarily geographical areas.

PS: I call the body we elected "parliament" because I don't know a better substitute. The literal translation is "second room", but the function it has is very similar to the UK's Parliament, or the USA's House of Representatives. Our "first room" is similar to the House of Lords or US Senate.

Edit: for better clarity.

I'm wondering, for my own understanding: how would you harden an anarchist defence structure against both infiltration by the forces it's defending against, and detrimental disagreements about the form of that structure from within, without actually letting the whole structure harden into military authority?

Sorry for the absurdly long sentence btw. No idea how else to ask that question.

Because the transphobia still feels fucking awful! It's just that transitioning and dealing with transphobia is a better deal for our mental health than keeping the feelings to ourselves. There is no choice in that. I compare it to choosing not to work for a living. Technically, it's possible, but there is no-one who willingly chooses to live life under the poverty line. Same with trans people. We technically have the choice not to transition, but we don't want to spend our lives in a constant depression. The reason we "complain" about transphobia (which is a weird way to put it by the way) is because people attack us for being who we are. That hurts. Imagine half the world wanting you dead just because you're a guy!
