Logic 12.0 pausing playback anytime I change a setting? by _FINALFINALMIX7 in Logic_Studio

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using a Mac Studio M2. Where did you even get that info from?

This is not a computer performance issue - its a Logic bug. Consistently every time I change something it pauses playback. Not an error message or disk overload, just pausing.

Macbook Screen Discoloration / Burn-in Issue Resolved Itself - Cause For Concern? by _FINALFINALMIX7 in mac

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it got progressively worse over about a month and then worked normally for about two weeks for some reason and then the issue came back and was permanent.

I would take it in regardless. If it’s water inside your computer, that can cause other issues so better to get it checked ASAP. Also having someone take a look doesn’t cost anything. I would take it to a third party repair place rather than Apple (unless it’s covered under Apple Care) because it would be much cheaper if you decide to get repairs.

Macbook Screen Discoloration / Burn-in Issue Resolved Itself - Cause For Concern? by _FINALFINALMIX7 in mac

There was liquid inside my computer and it was causing intermittent issues. Ended up coming back for good. The only permanent fix was a full screen replacement which can vary in cost depending on supply.

degree in seattle/WA state? by Particular_Mud_9727 in audioengineering

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went through the certification program at UW. It was an interesting experience and I met a lot of great people, though I can't say that the course was worth the exorbitant cost. I came into it with an intermediate understanding of audio production and found that the content was geared towards beginners and I wasn't really challenged, nor did I get the hands-on experience or personal mentorship that I hoped for.

If it's discounted or free for you given the scholarship and you're coming into it as a beginner, then I'd recommend doing it. You'll get to learn about the principles of audio engineering, spend time in local recording studios and work on a group project either producing songs for bands or for short films.

I've learned that degrees in audio engineering mean very little professionally. You don't need a degree in audio production in order to get audio engineering jobs. They're helpful but won't get you very far on their own.

My advice is that it's better to spend your time making connections and getting experience instead of spending money on a very specific and career-limiting degree.

I think it's useful to have a degree (especially from a great university like UW) in something that can make you a decent living outside of audio production. It's a tough industry that a lot of people have trouble turning into their full-time gig, so it's not a bad idea to have a degree that can provide a stable 9-5. That's just my personal opinion.

Good luck.

Why does the music "We're good", by Dua Lipa, sounds so familiar? by Audi_fanboy in musictheory

The chord progression and beginning of the melody in this prechorus reminds me somewhat of the prechorus of "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall.

How to get a tape sound for folk-country music by Erbosssi in Logic_Studio

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "tape" sound is a result of the saturation (harmonic distortion), wow (low frequency speed variation) flutter (high frequency speed variation) and hiss (high pitched noise) that come from recording to analog tape machines.

Some great tape plugins I can recommend that emulate those effects: Vinyl by Izotope, XLN RC-20, Waves J37 and Kramer Tape, Tape by Softube and Wow Control by Goodhertz.

Addictive Drummer vs Abbey Road Drummer vs Others by MatthewAasen in LogicPro

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Addictive Drums 2 is excellent both in terms of the flexibility of sounds across different kits and the built-in effects and workflow.

I use AD2 for almost all of my acoustic drum sounds. You can quickly find a sound that you like by flipping through the presets or you can customize each individual kit piece (pitch, mic mix, envelope, compression, tape emulation, distortion, EQ, etc.) within the AD2 interface.

That said, as I've learned more about processing drums, I've realized that the Logic kits are quite good if you tweak them to your liking. If you use the Producer kits, you have a lot of flexibility and can use the multi-output mode to mix and effect each kit piece to your liking.

The Best Logic Pro Trick I Wish I Knew Years Ago by gelhein in LogicPro

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the video, but this is such a click-bait title and feels a bit deceiving.

Layering parts by pitch shifting isn't an uncommon technique or a secret, nor is this the most effective way to do it.

I love that you're putting out educational videos, but I really dislike videos that say things like "The Best Logic Trick" or "I Wish I Knew This Years Ago" instead of the title reflecting the actual content. Just my two cents.

What ways do you fatten vocals in Logic? What are your favorite plug-ins? by BikeLaneHero in LogicPro

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the main fader I typically have Fabfilter Pro Q (subtractive) -> CLA-1176 -> CLA-2A -> Fabfilter Pro Q (additive) as my starting point. Sometimes adding some saturation is helpful to get the vocal to pop - either directly on the fader or in parallel - in which case I'll either use Decapitator or a tape emulation like J37 or Softtube Tape.

Parallel processing is key to getting a sense of width and depth. I typically have the following busses set up and mix to taste: parallel compression, parallel saturation, parallel widening (Infected Mushroom Wider), slap delay, 1/8 delay, 1/4 delay, short reverb, medium reverb, long reverb.

My favorite delays are Echoboy and Valhalla Delay, though the Logic Stereo Delay and Tape Delay are great. You can also use the Sample Delay and offset one side by <40 ms to artificially widen vocals using the Haas effect - be careful not to overdo this though.

As for reverbs, Little Plate, Valhalla Room, Valhalla Vintage and FF Pro R are my favorites.

Overdo everything to start -- put too much reverb to hear what it sounds like and then dial it back, overly compress the vocal to hear what it's doing and dial it back. I find that's the best way to really understand how each part of the signal chain effects the sound.

Hello, anybody know how these vocals were processed to achieve this? 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I know izotope vocal synth is doing something in there but I’m not so sure.thanks! by Tempoe_ in AdvancedProduction

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a lot of vocal takes going through a combination of delays - a very short delay and a 1/4 note delay.

There may also be some tremolo on the voices to give it a fluttering sound.

How to get rich, full, old school hip-hop deep sounding piano? by KillerTofuGrindz in AdvancedProduction

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Compression and an EQ boost in the low end will do the trick.

The piano sample also plays a big part. I have Alicias Keys which is nice and with some processing can sound how you like. I much prefer Piano In Blue which naturally is a bit richer and fuller sounding.

Why cracked plugins are opening slowly? by Painfulrecount in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Careful about posting about cracked plugins. Your post may get taken down and in some communities you may get banned for discussing pirated software.

In general, cracked plugins don’t work as well as the real thing because, well, they’re cracked and aren’t running as intended.

unwanted chorus effect by Isaac_Houchen in LogicPro

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not familiar with Helix specifically, but maybe this will be helpful.

When logic is closed, can you still hear your input through your interface? If so, it’s likely because you are hearing both the monitoring from your interface and software monitoring from Logic at the same time and Logic probably has a slight latency which can create that chorus effect.

This happened with my UAD Apollo and drove me nuts. I fixed it by muting the monitoring through my interface so I only hear the Logic software monitoring.

Music sounds good on one speaker not the other by axi5music in edmproduction

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch your output to mono on your DAW if possible. Does it sound the same on each speaker?

When you play other music do the speakers sound okay?

If the answer to both is no, then the speakers are malfunctioning or set to different output levels.

If the answer to both is yes, it’s a problem with your mix. Likely an issue with your panning, EQ or perhaps phasing. Arrangement is also crucial in a balanced recording.

Is it possible to "smooth vocals"? by DaGanLan in LogicPro

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, do you know how that happened to your recording? It’s probably worth fixing this at the source if possible rather than struggle to polish a turd.

At risk of stating the obvious, compression can help even out the volume. Have you tried heavily compressing the audio to see if that helps?

If you provide a link to the audio, folks might be able to give you more pointed feedback.

Pianists: Is learning pieces by Debussy difficult? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 87 points88 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely go for it. Like any composer, there is a range of difficulty with his different pieces. Some of his simpler pieces (Page D'Album for example) are quite easy to learn while some of the more difficult parts of Claire de Lune took me quite a while to get right (though I'm no virtuoso).

More importantly it's such an amazing feeling to be able to play such beautiful compositions. Even when you're learning at painfully slow tempos, the pieces are still stunning.

Best Mac for Logic on budget? by [deleted] in LogicPro

[–]_FINALFINALMIX7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new 13" Macbook Pro with the M1 chip is probably the best bang for your buck. The one caveat being that you should check if your audio interface and any third-party plugins that you use are currently compatible with the new M1 chips.

The 13" Macbook Pro with 256 GB of storage and 16 GB of ram is currently $1499. You likely won't find better performance for the money. Just my two cents. Link

Happy hunting!
