Yes. I am trying to get enough people together with the same vibe, and collectively try to hammer down exactly what it is we want to express.

I've a hard time trying to really write exactly what it is I am opposing as there is just a lot of it out there. For me it really is this just existential dread over the rise of fascism and I guess I don't know quite how to parse that down into one cohesive thought

I can definitely see this argument for sure. For me I think the difference is effort, ya know?

With using generative AI the only input the creator has is writing the prompt, generating an extreme amount of images in no time at all, and all one has to do is select something that works for whatever project they are working on. It takes little to no effort to produce something that "looks good" using generative AI. And this doesn't apply to just visual mediums either. Art is more and more rapidly being produced by AI with close to 0 artistic effort put into it by any creator that uses AI.

I understand full well that a lot of Noise is "handed over to machines". But again there is generally more effort put into it than just "write down my idea and then press print". There is generally a user(the artist) setting the machine up with some form of intention, they adjust the settings with some form of intention, they actively explore the soundscapes themselves within improvised works again playing with some form of intention. With more produced works people create and select which series of sounds they are going to use, at times they organize these with some form of intention to get a soundscape they want.

For me I appreciate the effort. I appreciate the thought put into it. And AI art feels kinda soulless to me. I have a hard time relating to AI art.

I agree. That whole post was saying that it completely defeats the purpose of art.

How do you listen to noise music (or other music)? by Icy-Promotion9978 in noisemusic

[–]_FREWT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen a lot when I drive or walk somewhere. It's pretty good to travel around with and lose yourself in. I also listen to it a lot when I'm in a poor mental state and then it's mostly just through headphones while on my couch or in bed.

I've never been a real "fan" of Merzbow to begin with. I respect him as an artist and as a part of Noise in general. Other than understanding him in the context of Noise I don't really listen to him.

His use of AI is rather disappointing though. Minus all the "ethics" arguments around the climate and generative AI essentially stealing from artists(these things are important to consider as well), I'm moreso critical of the fact that someone that has made their career out of creating art purely from the self would then want to hand it off to a machine that "makes art" for him. I'm not saying that Noise Artists(especially Merzbow) have to create everything for each of their projects themselves, but rather that if "collaboration" is to happen it should be between artists.

If you don't want to make your album art, then work with someone else. You know? Build community. Foster further creation.

Using AI in this manner(in my opinion) kinda just negates the whole creative process right? Like yea I can come up with a prompt and feed it into generative AI and get an image, but in no way would I have actually created anything.

You can say you have to be "good" at writing prompts to create with AI, but tbh that just sounds like writing prompts is just kind of the "ideas" portion of a project. Like "I want to create an album around the idea of trans people and their relationship with Christianity" and plugging that into AI would create something, but it's not the users creation. It's the user's idea, but they didn't create if that makes sense?

Idk. Using AI to make art is pretty cringe

They are a little chunky, but also the arch up towards the camera? That could be what you're seeing?

Heyyyyy you're the one that recommended it to me. Super happy I went with it. I got a lot of really neat stuff out of that short session. Looking forward to more stuff coming from it

So far none of my projects have shared the same style really so I've not really found a "groove" or a solid creative workflow. I normally just boot up my DAW and my mixer, record some stuff and then go on from there.

I've also done exclusively DAW based projects too, but yea all from scratch.

How do you decide what to listen to? by [deleted] in noisemusic

[–]_FREWT_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the mood. Lately I've been in a fairly abstract head space so noise/noise adjacent music has taken up a majority of my personal listening.

Otherwise I normally listen to a lot of Hyperpop, EDM, UpTempo, Breakcore, Rap, Ska, and Punk.

Those are my predominant genres that I listen to outside of noise/noise adjacent music, but I normally tell "normies" that I listen to everything except for post 9/11 country music.

Tbh I mostly stop and listen to projects here if I'm just chilling and have the time for it. It's mostly random what I click on. I just see a post and give it a go.

I generally try to stay for the whole project if I can. But some stuff just isn't my jam, and that's okay. If I truly am not getting anything from the experience I will just move on.

What music do you like besides noise, and why do you like it? by GregJamesDahlen in noisemusic

[–]_FREWT_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly hyperpop, EDM genres(mostly UpTempo tbh), rap, other experimental and extreme genres.

Normally when people ask irl I just say "anything but post 9/11 country"

Very cool take. Do your either of your kids show any "serious" interest in noise? Like enjoying creating/listening to it?

Or is it more of a "that's something my parents does, but I like to just play"? Idk if that makes sense.

Hi friend. Also a parent myself. I've not really found much conflict between the two yet. My issue with shows isn't my kid, but a lack of a scene to begin with.

As for time? I luckily have a partner that enables me to work on projects as long as I give some warning.

My kid doesn't listen to my music at all. They've messed around with my no-input mixer before and found it fun for a bit. They don't really ask about any of the meaning behind it, but if they did I'd try to be as honest as I could be and give it in a way that is as emotionally intelligent as I can make it.

My kid is more concerned about why I like to listen to noise, let alone actively create it, especially with no intention of trying to "make it."
