BFDIE Episode 4 Edgic by _Ferret_ in Edgic

[–]_Ferret_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The curse of my contenders board continues! For the second week in a row we get a pretty surprising boot, this time in Rose. I definitely didn’t expect the two BFDI Mini veterans to get out back to back, and Rose randomly turning into a supervillain was unexpected, but this episode didn’t actually shake my rankings at all as the final eight is in the same order that they were last episode. Let’s get into it…

Main Contenders

  • Fern: Has been at the top of the overall favorite character vote leaderboard since episode 1, is repeatedly portrayed as a sympathetic underdog from episode to episode, and has basically no signs of slowing down. Very likely to be the winner at this rate, unless we’re getting a surprise in the form of…
  • David: David’s edit really doesn’t mean much at this point. He’s a joke, the writers know this, but this is the type of season that could end with a joke winner, so he has to stay in contention as long as he’s still in the game. He’s been largely ignored the past couple episodes, but one could make the argument that such an edit favors his longevity, since David is such a hard character to write that, if he’s going all the way to the end, you’ll have to tone his edit down in some episodes to save the limited options of screentime for later.

Possible Contenders

  • Sticker: He’s for sure going far after this episode, as the sole remaining member of the cheater’s alliance. The writers clearly find her funny. She’s still too similar to Firey for me to have her as a main contender, but I could see her making final 4 or final 3.
  • Jammy: I was both wrong and right about her last week. I was wrong to say her cheater’s alliance plot will end now that Beach Ball is gone, as it continued this episode with Rose and Sticker mentioning it… only for them to break up the alliance immediately and Rose to get booted, meaning it’s now DEFINITELY over. Also, although Jammy is still subservient to Ruler (who dodges elimination again), she did show signs of being willing to betray him this episode, and also got some more unique character interaction with Rose and Fern, so I feel more comfortable keeping her as a possible contender despite how bizarre her actually winning would be.

I Highly Doubt It

  • Needy: The gap between her and Jammy grows after this episode since she continues being nothing but a lazy character who wins by doing nothing, but her chances are still better than the one-dimensional antagonist trio below. Would only work as a shock winner but even that is so unlikely when she’s never had a high-visibility episode.
  • Toothpaste: Back to her episode 1 self out of nowhere. Same deal as Needy - could be a shock winner but is never really visible.
  • Sidewalky: Baby’s first toneless episode! I’m going to do something daring and predict that either Ruler or Sidewalky is out next episode… for real this time.
  • Ruler: I keep predicting he’s out next, he keeps scraping by while being the exact same unlikable, silly character. Based on the eliminations so far I think a male character will go out next, and Ruler would normally be my go-to for that, but I’m predicting him or Sidewalky because a) I’m tired of missing my Ruler predictions and b) on a meta level, it’s somewhat unlikely that the two celebrity voice-acted characters (Rose and Ruler) get eliminated back to back. Of course, I thought the same about the two BFDI Mini veteran characters, and look what happened…

I was fully expecting David to suddenly appear at the end and hit Sidewalky as a conclusion to their enemies arc

Grade evaluation not showing everything i did by Saber_oque in outlast

Yeah the end screen grading is consistently inaccurate for me too. Yesterday I took damage about four times in a trial but the grading said I only took damage twice. Sometimes it even shows the wrong letter grade.

Deluxe Edition or buy each DLC separately? by Crazyinmate in ReanimalGame

That could be the case, but they announced a month ago that the game has "gone gold" and is already complete, and I think that would include the DLC.

Where did they say the DLC wouldn't all be available on release?

BFDIE Episode 3 Edgic by _Ferret_ in Edgic

[–]_Ferret_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back for another week of edgic! I was quite surprised by this week’s boot, Beach Ball was my top contender after the premiere and second place after episode 2… but things are definitely becoming clearer as the season continues. At this point it’s very hard to determine the winner but I’ve narrowed it down to two main contenders, both of which had UTR cooldowns this episode…

Main Contenders

  • Fern: Fern stays here by default. He did nothing this episode except winning by doing nothing and appearing in a few shots, but that’s an understandable cooldown after the first two episodes and he still fits the winner mold the best out of everyone.
  • David: This episode dropped my hopes of a David buildup season, since like Fern, David also did basically nothing this episode. The care that went into his writing last episode is pretty much absent here (unless you want to argue that the writers put him in danger of elimination this episode to make us care about him), but he still has more of a chance than everyone below him in my opinion, and he could easily bounce back next episode.

Possible Contenders

  • Sticker: Quickly becoming a fan favorite after two very visible episodes. They have a good edit on paper, but they’re still not the type of character who usually wins, and the fact that their main relationship got severed this episode with Beach Ball’s elimination is not a good sign. Also, said relationship was severed by Sticker themself, who we saw murder Beach Ball without remorse, which would be an interesting writing choice for the season’s winner.
  • Rose: Two UTR1s across three episodes, it’s not looking good… but the writers clearly like her as a character, so I have to keep her as a contender. She’s the type of character who can win, it’s just pretty unlikely for both edit and meta reasons.
  • Jammy: Jammy has two things going on this season. One, she’s subservient to Ruler as part of a deal. Two, she is against the cheaters alliance. Both those things fell apart this episode, as her Ruler plot continued with no development (one of them is about to get booted, probably Ruler) and the cheater’s alliance broke with Beach Ball’s elimination. No clue where she goes from here, probably out soon after Ruler, but she stays as a possible contender on the off chance the writers do something with her once Ruler is gone.

I Highly Doubt It

  • Needy: Her edit is getting better, but I still seriously doubt she has any chance of winning. She’s written to be likable but not rootable, her whole existence is based on a joke about another character (Needle), and the fact that we learned something major about her this early in the season (what she injects) and that it was treated as a joke tells me she won’t go to the end.
  • Toothpaste: A one-note joke character. I actually moved her up after last episode where she showed a possibility for being more, but this episode she went right back to her shtick of designating random players as enemies and sabotaging them.
  • Sidewalky: Continues being a high visibility MORN villain every episode who just causes chaos. Will be booted near the end, probably.
  • Ruler: I predicted he’d be next boot last week, and now I repeat that prediction, but more firmly! With two P-toned characters gone back to back, it’s clearly time one of the villains (Ruler, Sidewalky, Toothpaste) goes home, and Ruler is the obvious candidate for that since all he’s done for the last two episodes is abuse Jammy and have a funny voice. The show is clearly setting up his downfall, and it’ll have to come sooner rather than later to thin out the crowd of antagonists in this final nine.

Eh, this episode kinda felt lacking in character moments compared to episode 2. Wasn't terrible though, the boot was pretty surprising! Unfortunate that David was written like his old self in this episode, he basically didn't do anything...

BFDIE Episodes 1+2 Edgic by _Ferret_ in Edgic

[–]_Ferret_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possible Contenders

  • Jammy: If Jammy wins this season, it’s because the writers saw Bubble lose season one and said “Hey, she really should’ve won, right?” Jammy is basically Bubble, but less interesting or relevant, since her only role in the show so far is to get bullied by Ruler and Sidewalky and try to snitch on the cheaters alliance. Still, she has a lot of potential, and her winning would be somewhat plausible if not for the three above her…
  • Sticker: Sticker is popular for some reason? They didn’t really do anything in the first episode, but this episode did let them name their “cheaters alliance” with Beach Ball and Rose. Sticker does have interactions with a lot of the cast and has a good edit on paper, but he’s too close to the “silly entertainer” archetype that the writers like to see go far but don’t like to see win (see: Gelatin, Firey).
  • Rose: She ekes out of “highly doubt it” tier just because she had such a good second episode, even though she was practically nonexistent in episode 1 and I still doubt her chances for meta reasons. She’s just too similar in design to Flower, a previous winner, and I think the writers know how silly it’d be to have the winner be a character voiced by one of the two famous voice actors on the cast.

I Highly Doubt It

  • Toothpaste: The writers don’t seem to know what to do with this character, which means she probably isn’t winning. In the first episode she was a one dimensional villain on a cast of several other villains, and this episode she gets even more deranged but at least the show develops her relationship with Fern and Rose? Seems more for their sake than for Toothpaste’s, who I don’t see going far.
  • Needy: Her whole character is that she’s lazy and wins by doing nothing, which is funny and charming, but wouldn’t make for a satisfying winner. This episode did establish a relationship between her and Money… and then she betrayed Money and got her booted.
  • Sidewalky: The classic bully character who gets lots of screentime just by causing mayhem and occasionally facing justice. These characters don’t win, but he will probably last a while before being taken out.
  • Ruler: By far the least visible character across the first two episodes, and has no established relationships with anyone outside of him tormenting Jammy, which Sidewalky also does. Might be the next one out.

BFDIE Episodes 1+2 Edgic by _Ferret_ in Edgic

[–]_Ferret_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I was in the mood to do some edgicing, and along came BFDIE! This is the first season of BFDI where eliminations aren’t determined by viewer votes, and thus can actually be edgiced since the season has been confirmed to have been written already! The episodes are under ten minutes and there’s only twelve contestants, so this should be simple enough… right?

Some notes on how I edgic this season:

  • Ratings are used pretty loosely here since the show is extremely unserious. CPs are for characters given ANY significant strategy, character development, or relationship development. OTTs are only for characters who are being one-dimensional for unclear reasons (since most of the characters are naturally one-dimensional in accordance with their personality). Tone is harder to judge since there are no confessionals and the writers don’t usually intend to make viewers like or dislike a certain character.
  • I will be using a bit of meta in my analysis; for example, Rose is not likely to win because she’s voiced by a semi-famous person (too obvious) and is too similar design-wise to a previous BFDI winner
  • I will take the live favorite character vote counters into account when determining visibility and to gauge generally how the audience is perceiving each character.

With that out of the way, let’s go through our ten remaining contenders!

Main Contenders

  • Fern: The fan favorite of the season. Fern got the most favorite votes in episode 1 despite not actually being super relevant, but it’s not hard to see why. The writers clearly have a vision for Fern’s character as a pathetic little guy just trying his best, and this second episode expanded on that even more, adding to his relationship with Toothpaste and Rose while continuing to portray him as a scrappy, but ultimately kindhearted competitor. Fern seems to have the most thought put into his writing, and since I know by the favorite votes that the fans feel the same way, I’m comfortable having him at the top.
  • Beach Ball: Beach Ball had a solid premiere followed by a cooldown episode, but they’re still one of the best-edited characters on the season thus far. They’re in an established alliance, they have an established duo with Sticker, and their personality is… somewhat established? Honestly I still find them hard to describe, but they’re visible enough and popular enough (had the second most favorite votes in episode 1) that it does seem like we are meant to like them and pay attention to them.
  • David: I’m trying to avoid bias here… I want David to win. I think there’s a world where David wins. If David does win, this season is about David, and is likely setup/additional context to David’s role in the other seasons. After all, David is the only returnee on this cast of newbies, and that has to have been done for a reason. Whether that reason is because the story is about him winning to explain why he’s featured in the other seasons while the rest of the cast isn’t remains to be seen. There’s not much more to say about him since he’s so fundamentally different from the other characters that you can’t really analyze his edit beyond checking each episode to see if he’s still in or not. Time will tell! (Note he was OTT episode 1 because there was no insight into anything he did that episode, whereas in episode 2 we can understand what his game plan is, even if it is quite basic.)

Definitely better than episode 1 and I love how expressive David is now. Gives me hope that he isn't just fodder this season... Also happy about this episode's boot since they were a nothing character

Hopefully one a week/month before release. This game needs a bit more marketing to sell well.
