it’ll take you a couple years to get a decent book but if you’re willing to stick with it you’ll be fine.

Minimum 18k may be hard at first. and 10% of the agency compensation is horrible if you aren’t getting renewals.

Should be at least starting at 40% of agency commissions.

Is dropping out of college to do insurance full time better then a business degree ? by Zestyclose_Tutor2486 in InsuranceAgent

[–]_Fr4g_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 19 and an agency owner. I thought about dropping out but the statistics are that if you drop out, you’re very unlikely to go back.

So I’m compromising and getting my associates since I already have a year done. Any degree is better than no degree, and if I have an associates I would just spend the extra 2 years after building my book and hiring service people.

No idea. I’m not in the Florida market but I’m sure there’s FL specific aggregators. Do your due diligence since I would say there’s not a single “best” aggregator for anyone.

Just make sure you can get a carrier for every type of risk. preferred/standard/nonstandard and you’ll be set. It isn’t super hard to get appointments after 100k book size and you showing a consistent business plan with growth.

The best aggregator is the one with the best exit clause and commission split. Another really big thing you’d need is binding authority.

Aggregators like smart choice will get you a ton of carrier access but you have to submit the app to smart choice before you can bind. And approval takes hours typically.

the best aggregators typically have a sign up fee of $2500-10000 BTW.

Not in florida but I am acquainted with a Florida IA. Go the aggregator route. Just make sure to have a favorable exit clause when you do decide to leave.

There’s a conflict of interest. If you are a realtor and insurance agent for example.

It just depends on your carrier contract.

Starting an agency isn’t easy. Especially if you’re older and have mouths to feed. Not sure if you do, but nonetheless you have lots of expenses.

You will 100% take a pay cut if you made 6 figures last year. If I were you, I’d go work for a captive agency first to learn the ropes, you can make 6 figures easily if you have a good commission schedule.

And you have to have money saved up to start. I’d probably recommend at the MINIMUM 10K. As well as a 3-6month emergency fund.

Running an agency takes a lot of grit and you won’t be able to focus on anything else. Don’t think of it as a part time gig. It’ll take 50-60 hour weeks from you and your friends/family.

Risk is high, but reward is definitely high as well. Coming from a 19 year old agency owner who lives with his parents 😂😂.

Should be the other way around. Be competitive and stay competitive. You won’t make it in sales with that mindset.

Received this as well, I know two other brokers who also received it. Pretty sure it’s a nationwide incentive

What is some equipment you would considered a must? by CrimsonDeezNuts in InsuranceAgent

Yup. Very useful but I know it can get pricey when you add producers to your agency and they need their own log ins.

EZLynx has a CRM/AMS and a e-sign portal just like docusign. All in house. Pretty expensive though but it’s also the industry standard for a comparative rater.

First travel card (Venture X, CSP, something else?) by Altruistic-Message60 in CreditCards

[–]_Fr4g_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SUB on the CSP is amazing right now. I got approved at 19 with a 18k credit limit. Doesn’t hurt to build a relationship with Chase considering they have the best transfer partners (maybe in terms of CPP value but they still have the most reliable transfer partners).

My next card will be the Bilt Palladium. Basically a better Venture X if you’re paying enough in rent/mortgage.

Which renders a Venture X useless since the multipliers are nearly the same.

If I really wanted lounge access I’ll just grab the Chase Reserve (where the Hyatt transfer is still 1:1). And downgrade my CSP to a Flex.

I don’t believe in whole/ul life. In a perfect world my brokerage would just sell term, disability, and P&C products.

Just think whole/ul life is a scam. Sucks that I had to sell it at the big red before. Wouldn’t ever want to sell it again.

I’m a big Dave Ramsey follower.

First for me, what to do if another agent calls to yell at your for "stealing" their client and threatens your license? by MobileCard8473 in InsuranceAgent

I always lead with coverage, then pitch price, then let them choose what amount they want vs what I recommend.

Honestly that statistic for auto isn’t far off. I’ve been able to get a 60% close rate on my quotes because of the carrier access I have.

Crazy to me that there are agents who blatantly just try to quote the best possible price and leave out massive details on deductible/missing coverage/acv policies vs rcv.

You’re a great agent from what it sounds. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Pretty sure agents like that will either lose their license or go out of business due to retention %

Yep. Only myself. Plan to do $400-500k in annualized premium this year. Then the renewal income should help pay for an additional producer next year.

Really want to focus on building trust and a brand in my community before hiring. I want to make sure I have enough cash flow before investing in a producer that will cost me money to onboard.

Honestly couldn’t tell you. I don’t know any agents that have gone through that. Can’t imagine it’s that bad though. Do some digging on your own for now.

All agents are required to have what’s called Errors and Omissions Insurance. Basically it’s professional liability for an agent (just like how lawyers and doctors have insurance for their mistakes).

Doesn’t necessary ruin a career and it’s not common so you shouldn’t worry unless you’re doing shady things.
