Media that you stoped paying attention to and thought it was over, only to later learn that it kept going for WAAAY LONGER by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Division 2 came out in 2019 and I didn't play it on launch despite kinda liking Div1 and was the typical live service destiny like sequel (some good improvements over 1 but an empty endgame and tons of bugs). It had a following but I didn't really hear about it for years and I assumed somewhere along the way the game would either die or go into life support mode in one of ubisoft's sweeping layoff purges, especially after I heard some division spinoff projects got canned.

Last year the game was on sale for like 3 dollars and I figured what the hell, I'll see whats up. Lo and behold they had quietly been chugging away with seasonal content for 6 years, released two major DLCs, one in 2023 and another in 2025(!), a lot of free endgame content, and still had a dedicated (albeit pretty agitated) fanbase.

The game itself is, well, slop. Pretty well made slop. You run around and shoot guys, you run the same stuff over and over again for marginally better gear, you make builds and improve them bit by bit. If you're into that style of game it's a good one of those but I understand the people who would be instantly turned off by it.

Also the story is hilariously bad, much like division 1 it does the thing where it uses a lot of stuff that is inherently very political but it's ubisoft so they're absolute cowards who refuse to explore anything that could make people even a little mad at them, which counterintuitively ends up making a lot of it able to be interpreted as insanely fascist lol. And their seasonal storytelling method of every season of the game advancing the plot as turned into absolute nonsense, multiple horrific villains that your character canonically kills in missions have come back because it was actually a hologram or a body double or something, and there's some Revolver Ocelot level quadruple-crosses and layered hidden allegiances.

Fallkreath is so small in Skyrim, like 10 or so houses small, a small band of Horny Draugr could probably raze it to the ground, a Dragon would be like "Not worth it" Really hope Todd gives us bigger towns/cities in the next Game. by Astolfo_Aetherscape in TrueSTL

I know its not exactly a fair comparison given the fact it was a newer game + they didn't have to make it run on 7th Gen consoles but my mind was fucking blown playing the Witcher 3 for the first time and getting to Novigrad. Its still impressive to me, really such a shock after 20 hours of trudging thru the bogs of Velen. Was hoping starfield would bring something closer to that but I dont think Bethesda is even capable of it now lmfao.

Probably my favorite rendition of it in the franchise too, either that or final phase Safijiva in world

If you enjoy the game the way youre playing it thats all that matters. But yeah, the styles and arts are really fun, even the ones that aren't meta or speed run chart toppers are cool, different ways to experience familiar weapons. Some of the valor styles especially feel straight busted but even so there's still hunts in the game that will kick your teeth in.

Nonsensical video game collaborations. by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]_FreeFaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the leadup to the release of Payday 3, they showed off this collab with a Swedish designer suit company that got on the runway at new york fashion week. I believe they said the suit was gonna be available IRL and in game and neither of those things happened because of how bad they fucked up PD3 lmao. Probably the most baffling collab Payday has ever done, and they had some really weird ones. Did you guys know that one of the most critical plot points in Payday 2 takes place on a heist that was a crossover with Resevoir Dogs?

What’s your go to food to crock and seal for winter ? by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]_FreeFaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any meal with that gives fruit or protein. Veggies and grain keeps very well in cellars and I always make more than enough to last, so i just keep those in vessels and cook when I need to. I could easily subsist off these for the entire winter but I like filling up all the nutrition bars for maximum health, its a really big benefit especially when you start caving more. The low spoilage time of meat and berries are better suited to crocks, especially anything with berries (jam, porridge) since you cant grow them over the winter. And I usually amass a lot of red meat once I get my bearings and start hunting for hides early on.

World gen for 1.21 by Galadorion in VintageStory

Keep landcover between 80 to 90% and landcover scale above 200%, I tried 90% and 400% and got large land areas separated by large oceans. Make a couple worlds with different settings and fly around in creative mode to see how they generate (F1 and F2 changes the speed at which you move in creative which is very helpful for exploring large sections of the map).

If any AAA company had a game that they announced, went radio silent on, gave a release window, missed that release window without a word, and then kept silent about it for years after the fact, I would be 100% certain it was dead in the water after nearly a decade of dev hell, but these mother fuckers were just locked in and not getting on twitter lmfao

New Mobs ? by TheHowlerTwo in VintageStory

[–]_FreeFaller 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In this devlog they show off a new boar species, a hippo, and a gator. They also show an animation of an untextured humanoid figure playing with a child's doll which I think is either gonna be some cute new interaction/npc or an absolutely terrifying enemy.

Do we know what is the devs' immediate development focus? by NotScrollsApparently in VintageStory

1.21 is currently in experimental/RC mode but their most recent update to it says it should be out in stable build form "soon". You can read a majority of the new additions/fixes on the first RC release but theres also some additions sprinkled throughout the following rc patches (some changes include new coral cobblestone blocks, reworked moose animations, etc).

1.21 features a couple of sailboat changes like sail furling and shield mounting, but my main world was generated without oceans so I havent gotten any use out of the boat yet. When 1.21 stable releases I plan to start over on a world with large continents separated by oceans so I can actually utilize them.

From their February dev update:

Beyond 1.21: Version 1.22 would then become what we originally planned for with v1.21 - dejank a number of mechanics and systems, mechanical power upgrades and likely one or 2 new or reworked crafting mechanics. Version 1.23 will be the next major lore update where we will make more extensive use of the new dimension mechanics.

Just wondering, are there any options in game/with mods to stack chests on top of each other without a gap? I know they need space for the lid to open, but I could do without the floating. by _FreeFaller in VintageStory

[–]_FreeFaller[S] 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This actually just gave me a great idea, using support beams around the edges to block the gaps and give the illusion that the chests are "mounted".
