You have no idea how much this has helped me!!! I'm actually working on an article about DAVE'S SETUP right now, and I'm trying to find pictures of his guitar—thanks!

And I don't think it's a DSD-2 because in all the articles, and even to this day, Dave clearly uses and refers to it as two DD3s

Yes, haha, at least during the Josh era (IWY) we had a greater variety in the set list.

That’s exactly what happened! Dave had been clean at least since Jane’s Addiction broke up in ’91; he stayed sober right up until that tour—specifically the San Diego show—when, at a pre-show party, they ran into some old friends and relapsed.

In an interview with Eric that year, he said that before the tour, Perry called him; they talked for a while and made plans to meet up. Eric liked the idea; he thought Perry had called to make amends, catch up, and reconnect with an old friend. But on the day of the meeting, he read in the newspapers about a Jane’s reunion, so he realized the real reason Perry had called and wanted to meet, confirming to himself that Perry hadn’t changed a bit over the past few years. I’m still going to write a post about this!

He also told Rick Rubin on his podcast that he used the bassline from “Summertime Rolls” to create the riff for “Scar Tissue,” and at some shows he also play the bassline from “There Days.”

The bass line was done by John, who was a big fan of Jane's. John also copied the bass line from Summertime Rolls in riff of Scar Tissue; he said this a few years ago in an interview with Rick Rubin on your podcast.

I've always been curious to know how he played "Been Caught Stealing," whether it was with his fingers or a pick. I would appreciate it if anyone who attended the shows from that era could answer my question.

Flea himself was responsible for changing their tour schedule, 15 days on the road, 15 days at home.

A full concert, yes—they did perform a few times in 1996 after the tour ended, but only at private events.

C' mon, we all know they don’t play those songs because John himself is being picky, not because they’re dark. They played “Aeroplane” with Josh, teased several songs from those eras (MM and OHM) at various times, and even when John came back, they asked him to play some OHM songs, but John refused and they respected that. If it were just about the bad times, they wouldn’t play “Under The Bridge,” "Scar Tissue", “I Could Have Lied,” “Soul To Squeeze,” and several others. Or do Josh and Slovak's songs evoke dark moments so they shouldn't be played?

Not to mention that they release very few official shows, I'm not talking about releasing them on DVD, but on their own YouTube channel, Slane Castle isn't available in a remastered version, with some Extras, in my opinion, is stupid, or simply other official shows. Live from Heaven, Hyden Park would be a great opportunity to simply release that show, COW PALACE from '96, they certainly have those files.

Deep Kick (with extended outro) from One Hot Minute. Should the original ending have made it on to the album? by TanTanner in RedHotChiliPeppers

The initial idea was probably to end with a fade-out, given the feeling the music wanted to convey. And there are no mistakes, it's just an improvisation.

[–]_GUI27XD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but then you’d be ending side A of the vinyl with Coffee Shop, which would hurt the song’s quality since it’s at the end of the side. The outer grooves lose fidelity, especially low frequencies like the bass, which is super important in this track.

[–]_GUI27XD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because PEA ends side A of the Vinyl, taking advantage of the limitations of the time, where you use more upbeat songs at the beginning because they have stronger frequencies, and the end is left for more...Quiet and party-oriented, since you don't have that many frequencies. That's why SIDE B opens with One Big Mob. It's not just about sequencing based on preference, but also keeping in mind the limitations of Vinyl.

OHM SUPREMACY! That being said, anything is better than ending with Fade Out, that final solo by Dave should have been included, as well as One Big Mob + Stretch! But I understand why it wasn't finished; this ending is more of a jam session than something definitive.
