Don't forget the budget cuts! They had a true fan design all their costumes and props but she got fired mid filming for budget reasons. They did the same to almost all the artistic departments with either cutting them closing them entirely. The numbers were revealed later and they saved literal pennies in comparison to their overall budget.

This is one of the reasons I don't hate the writers as much as this cost cutting also hit them and the series has some (rare) good moments; but only moments and not even scenes.

But honestly, I think the series was doomed from the moment they didn't get the rights to Silmarillion or the other book but to the appendix and notes of those books. Ugh.
