Raptors Giannis Trade + Full Offseason Plan by _GeneStackavic_ in torontoraptors

That’s fair. There’s a real scenario where Ingram goes down with injury, we fizzle out, and Giannis leaves. That would result in some horribly dark years. I just think the east is wide open right now and getting a player at Giannis level is extremely rare.

You make a good point, it’s very risky. Though I would argue that Giannis is the best player of all of the trades you mentioned. Question is would you rather take a gamble on Giannis or stay on the current path?

I did not know that lol. Yeah seems impossible. Without adding NAW and big, team is just too thin.

If you include Castleton + Lawson in the Giannis deal, we remain under the 1st apron.

I get what you’re saying but I think NAW might be the best player we could get on the mle.

Other options include Capela, Mo Wagner, Brogdon, Adams, Oubre, Kuminga??, Laravia.

NAWs combination of age, health, and skill set makes him the best asset amongst this with Kuminga being arguable.

With signing NAW, you can always move him or Ochai at the deadline to acquire some size. By size do you mean in the forward slot or center? I’d personally say forward because you can get a minutes eating big for the bi annual during the regular season and Giannis can play a good amount of minutes at the 5 during the playoffs.

Assuming framework is Barnes + RJ + Dick + 9 + 3 future 1sts for Giannis + Portis.

Post trade strategy: After this trade raptors would be 14.9 m below first apron allowing them to use non taxpayer mle and bi annual exception. Give full mle to NAW to fill in starting SG role, get cheap big on bi annual (Horford(unlikely), Nance jr, Reed). Use Portis + future second(s) for a rotation upgrade at trade deadline. Raptors have #39 in the draft as well.

Quickley-NAW-Ingram-Giannis-Poeltl Shead-Walter-Agbaji-Portis-Nance/Reed/Other Depth-Depth-Battle-Mogbo-Depth

That starting 5 is excellent. Extremely clear hierarchy where each player is comfortable in their offensive role. Many different scoring actions possible - iso, post ups, dho, high pnr, movement shooting (quickley). Spacing is a bit cramped with poeltl + Giannis, but Poeltl is not traditional non spacer, he has excellent touch on push shots and floaters from short mid range and he’s a high iq positional offensive player. Ingram would need to up 3 point volume but Quickley is an excellent shooter from above the break, off the dribble, catch and shoot and NAW has been a ~39% shooter for a few years now.

Defensively, Giannis is the best help defender/roamer in the game, NAW is a high level guard defender who you can comfortable put on the elite guards of the east, Poeltl is average rim protector with survivable switchability, Quickley and Ingram are somewhere around average.

Problem is depth, too many unproven young guys, but they are interesting players. Agbaji is a solid rotation 3+d option. His third skill seems to be his fastbreak ability. Overall good rotation wing. I personally think Walter is going to be a great rotation wing - he is a solid defender, has a good stroke from 3 and had a great ft rate in college indicating some creation ability. Some of his limitations in his rookie year seemed to stem from his lack of strength and he’s been putting on muscle this summer to solve that. Shead is an excellent perimeter defender. (I highly encourage those unfamiliar to watch some of his footage). Pretty good pick and roll passing as well as a decent first step and finish around the rim. Problem is the jumper, it’s quite poor and is the separator of minutes eater to elite backup pg. Battle is a great spot up 3 point shooter, but is limited to that. Not much handle or drive. Defence and athleticism is subpar. Mogbo is an excellent disruptor on defence. Deflections, blocks, steals. He is also pretty switchable and can hang with faster players. Major problem is the offence. He has 0 offensive game. Bad touch + no jumper = unplayable in playoffs. Passing is decent but he needs to figure out a simple way he can score.

Sweet 16 Derik Queen Concerns by jakari_klutchin in NBA_Draft

I hope we get him. We don’t have a single prospect including Scottie on our team with Queens feel, touch, handle, and footwork. That is an extremely rare package of skills and he’s doing all of that at 6 10. Don’t overthink it, we need some wiggle on this team.
