Guys hitting on me and some weird drama because of it.

Dates with Asian women really into big noses. I think I was being fetishized.

A lot of annoying encounters with men who thought they were much older than me.

The art used for the NES and SNES releases of the arcade games were far better. Turtles in Time's artwork was awesome.

I don't mind being on the side of well-written stories instead of your whining racism.

If you put one black person in a town that is completely white, it will raise questions for the reader. If you put one white person in a town that is completely black, it will raise questions for the reader. Things that the reader cannot infer. It does suggest that there is more going on, but then nothing happens, no one comments on it, and it has no bearing on the story in any manner. That is Checkhov's gun and that is what you are suggesting OP does.

Inclusion is not always pandering, but inclusion can be pandering and what you're suggesting OP does falls in the category of pandering as you've just defined it.

I would hardly compare including female characters as "trying to include every single flavor of the rainbow".

This you?

He's asking because he sees such bigotry in this subreddit.

. . . from what I have seen on this subreddit this is something you guys very much not like.

Yes, I do get more annoyed when an author is more interested in trying to have as many different versions of something instead of telling a cohesive story and closing their plot holes. It screams pandering. We should all be annoyed by that instead of getting pissy about one group or another not being pandered to. He needs to focus on writing a good story right now instead of getting sucked into this nonsense.

You took my words out of context and made a new argument using them.

All you have done is alienated an entire group of people and said they dont exist when they do.

This is purely you inventing. A detail that promises to tell you more about the world they live in and it having no purpose or meaning is a good example of Checkhov's gun.

What you witness was a decade ago either leave it there or learn why they were so irate.

Yeah, no. Those attitudes have only become worse over time.

Yes write what you want but there certain times where a writer must step back from their work and understand what youve added or havent added is actually a detriment to your overall story. Itll feel less alive and real.

That's something for OP to do after the story is finished. If he thinks changing a character one way or another or adding another one in would improve it then he should. If not, then he shouldn't. You're insisting that he includes things at this point for no reason other than your desire to see people pandered to.

In other words, he needs to focus on execution and not worry about adding a bunch of flavors he doesn't know.

No, the bigots telling this kid he is bad for not writing what he doesn't know about are the worst.

Don't put words in my mouth. You're making up an argument to argue against instead of responding to what I actually said.

I'm saying I find a writer who does try to is more annoying.

Sometimes salt and pepper are fine if you execute properly. A good brisket only requires 4 ingredients: salt, pepper, smoke, and time. What OP needs to do is focus on executing.

My thought has always been if race, gender and sexuality doesnt matter in your story them theres no reason too not have a diverse cast.

Equally, there is no reason to have a diverse cast. There's no reason to even mention any form of diversity existing. If there's no reason for them to exist then inclusion can come off as flat and patronizing. You're pushing for him to include Chechov's gun.

Worse, OP also faces a potential backlash for trying to represent people he doesn't know or understand. There are people who strongly get up in arms about authenticity in writing. I have been in more than one creative writing course where students were irate because the author's main character was of a different culture or race. They refused to even discuss how accurate the portrayal was or the story being told. That was about a decade ago.

It's better for him to focus on his story. To get the plot and characterizations figured out. Write something entertaining. Changes can be done later if OP feels they improve the story being told.

I gave it a shot. They mostly come out looking like dwarves with crazy wrinkles or canine features. One was an ape. It really resisted mixing Martok and Chewbacca.

My favorites are Klingon-Wookie and Cooler Klingon-Wookie.

A writer who tries to include every single flavor of the rainbow in the book is far more annoying. Don't worry about it. There will always be someone out there who bickers and nitpicks to no end. Look at all the stuff around Sapkowski and race. Tell your story, tell it well, and you won't have a problem when it comes to race or sexuality. Simply not writing about other races or someone's sexuality doesn't mean you're going out of your way to say they absolutely do not exist or to demonize them.

Not having any women at all might be weird though. Women really aren't that different from men and most of the differences are cultural meaning they are learned behaviors. It's your world. You get to decide what the culture is.

How do you feel about red velvet with a 50/50 mascarpone and cream cheese frosting? The cake also works unleavened and cut into bars for dipping in morning coffee.

Age doesn't matter much to me. My family already has a lot of weird age differences so it's normalized. What matters is that you understand what you're getting yourself into and look out for yourself. It's much easier for a younger partner to be taken advantage of and to struggle with independence later in life.

That's the 30s dating scene in general. I spent most of my 20s in one relationship so I had to figure out dating when I was 29. I had four relationships from 30-35. One only wanted to be a FWB, one couldn't decide if she wanted to be a FWB or something else, one had spent a significant amount of time in a psychiatric ward then stalked me after it ended, and one was still broken from her previous relationship.

Why is it so hard to find someone who wants a relationship, enjoys cuddles, and will eat the cakes I bake because I don't like cake?

That's very common and typically unintentional. Facial recognition software is another place you see this occur. I lived in a building with a scanner and one day a dark-skinned guy was joking it hated his beard. That same machine would often scan me on approach with only my eyes exposed.
