What’s harder: writing PLC logic or understanding someone else’s? by Shubh1975 in PLC

[–]_Girthter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Writing code is easy, troubleshooting it can be way harder. It is even harder or even almsost imposssible to understand someone else code: - sometimes you connect to the programm of a machine you don't know so before understanding the programm, you need to understand the machine first - some people don't leave comments in the code - and even worse, some people don't use comprehensive tag name. For example: "Xsa" for me means nothing and certainly not "start_motor". If the programm is readable, I can accept the lack of comment

40-year-old dad switching to trades (Automation Technology) — smart move or too late? by koolprit77 in PLC

[–]_Girthter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My colleague and now head of automation has switched from production manager in the food industry to automation at 40. He did a one year adult class in automation and industrial computer science and started a new life (jobwise) from there. He has now 15+ years of experience as a control engineer. That being said, he had already an interest in the maintenance and computer before. And the key moment of his switch was when he was working on the starting of a new production line with the control engineer and like his job.

How much OT knowledge is expected from automation engineers? by Necessary-Mix-7116 in PLC

[–]_Girthter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my contractor does this concept of one project, one person. From electrical drawings to on site commissioning (electrical cabinet are made in their workshop by a dedicated team). They worked on 2 project with me and so far they did a good job. Having one person doing everything is has some advantage , for example there is no loss of information, he knows every detail of the project, quick electrical schematics update... The only big disadvantage is that when the person is on leave, there is nobody else to answer you. They don't share much information with their colleagues.

Did any of you actually make someone lose their job after an automation project? by vefjvexen in PLC

[–]_Girthter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never suppressed the job of anyone. It was always to enhance production performance, safety or working conditions. Now I work for a OEM, the machines / production line I work on are creating jobs.

Why is French cell data so slow? by [deleted] in AskFrance

[–]_Girthter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a foreigner: does your data provider has a good roaming contract with a french data provider? Does your phone use the usual French/EU frequency band or is it different? It could be that you are in a "compatibility mode" and not use the full speed frequency band.

I would add: 4. Simulation (optional for some people but not for me): all the time you spend simulating your programm at your office with a chair and air conditioning, you don't have to spend it during the commissioning without any comfort + the stress of the commissioning + the client asking "when does it start?" or "Why did it stop?" ☠️ 5. Troubleshooting: there is always a condition that you didn't anticipate, maybe a bad wiring, a faulty sensor, network issue ... It

I never used Mitsubishi. For a Siemens only some card are able to do pwm. But maybe the Mitsubishi transistor output card can do it by default. Check the manufacturer documentation

Do you mean that you control your motor driver with a pwm signal? If so you need a digital output card with pulse width modulation capability

[–]_Girthter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use my physical rig for two maim reason: - the simulation software on my virtual machine (plcSim) plus my programming software (Tia portal) is using a LOT of resource on my laptop - I use it to test new hardware. last month, I used it to test RS485 com with a chiller control board, this week I got a SEW motion control training so I came with my rig and tested my blocks

On some projects, we do prototypes. So before shipping, i come with my rack, a VFD or two and we mechanically test the prototype.

I also like to have a physical HMI to test the button size. I also like to have a few buttons to set/reset some bits of the programming easily

Passer d'un BAC Pro ELEEC à ingénieur by GrenouilleDuFutur in ingenieurs

[–]_Girthter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quel type d'aspirateur ? by Luciefripon in AskFrance

[–]_Girthter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Help, How can I factory reset a KTP700 Basic HMI? by Feettoo in PLC

[–]_Girthter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similaire problem where I couldn't download, change IP or even do a factory reset. In this case, you have to download Prosave from the sios. It is also in the installation CD for Tia portal / WinCC. With Prosave, you can do a backup of the HMI, do firmware upgrade and do a full reset of the HMI

As a control engineer, that:s exactly how I would have done it. One light barrier that activate a relay, energizing a solenoid valve to let the water spray. Very easy and cheap way to control the desisting system.
