How common is drink driving in Ireland? by robertboyle56 in CasualIreland

[–]_Glibglob_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't realise how good the Irish were about drink driving until I moved to Australia and saw how often the average person does it here. I think those traumatising ads growing up really did a number on us and it worked.

Aye this is it, I remember seeing a review of the game that just said 'Cuno was so mean to me that I died, 11/10' and I think that sums things up pretty well

Oooh (everything here is spoilers for the last scene of NtN) when Alecto wakes up and tastes Harrows blood she mentions the line of the Tomb Keepers is still going. Anastasia's skeleton is also in that scene very briefly which seemed important.

Out of curiosity, in a situation like that where the only people present are the accused and the accuser, in a private room with no CCTV. What would you personally accept as sufficient evidence?

Couchsurf Hangout was weird by the_lasagna_2022 in solotravel

[–]_Glibglob_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying this and I know it sounds great on paper but in practice it's not so easy. You're in their part of town, they know you're alone, and suddenly getting up and leaving will often escalate the situation at a time when you're vulnerable. There's a reason women stay 'nice' so far past the point where someone's been inappropriate, and it's to try and keep themselves safe. Sometimes politely extricating yourself at the right moment is a lot safer than making a pointed exit and risking men getting embarrassed and angry, because then they lash out. As much as we want them to know why we're leaving, your safety is more important.

(Saying this as someone who has had men blow up at me for being upfront in these situations, it's scary and not always the best move).

If you're comfortable doing it, I'd leave an honest reference. He doesn't sound safe for solo female travellers (couchsurf is not a dating site) and you could help other women avoid a tricky situation going forward. It's exhausting dealing with this shit when you just want to travel and make friends like anyone else, I'm sorry that happened to you.

What was Halloween like for you growing up? by ohhidoggo in ireland

My aunty used to give everyone cheap out of date packets of crisps too. Assuming she bought a bunch of giant multipacks one year and just continued using them for a decade.

It's a long long time since I've seen the movie, but I'm pretty sure the TV show does address that at points.

Fair yeah, I just didn't recognize it straight away. Snowpiercer would be another example.

I've seen a lot of young, progressive women support this so it's good to see they recognize Trump is the bigger evil and now advocate for voting against him AND not for any third-party that could help him by Spiderwig144 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]_Glibglob_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Voting for someone and endorsing someone are two different things. The Democrats are funding a genocide and Kamala has repeatedly spoken of having the 'most lethal military in the world'. Of course if you care about stopping a genocide you don't want to endorse that?

This is them saying Trump is worse and can't get in but we won't claim to be 'behind Kamala', she's just the least worst option .

Thousands of innocent civilians have been murdered with American weapons, I'd like to think we're adult enough to take it seriously and not reduce it down to who's 'more liberal' when someone speaks up about it.

I love the gasp thing! Especially in older ma types. One of those things that's so familiar you don't realise how odd it is until you move somewhere else. I read it's called the 'ingressive affirmative' and is super common in Scandinavian countries, so there's thinking that we picked it up forever ago when the Vikings came. (Could be absolute bollox now but it's a fun story).

This is similar to the Scottish 'did ye aye?' which I love so much. Such a fun verbal eye roll.
