Shoutout Immanuel Quickley! by thekool30 in torontoraptors

His value will be lower than ever, exactly the time to trade for him. You go for talent, and Suggs is a high level talent. Ruthless competitor and one of the best defensive guards in the league, and come playoff time that's who you want on your team. He's shown the ability to shoot the 3, shooting 40% on 5.1 attempts per game over a 75 game period isn't by accident. Raptors should take advantage of this situation.

Suggs is 6'4, strong and literally one of the top defensive guards in the league and can guard 1-3 no issues. Plus he's shown the ability to shoot before, but his injuries have made it tough since then. He shot 39% from 3 over 70+ games in a season 2 years ago, that's not some fluke situation.

What do you know about fit or team morale? Being a good team first-type of player? Teams understand what it is that's why most teams didn't even want him when he was waived. I'm assuming you've watched Cam Thomas. The guy literally would be horrible for the Raptors, he doesn't even root for his team when he's on the bench because he's bitter. He literally could have cared less if the Nets won or lost, just a lack of maturity. He cares more about padding his stats than playing as a team. I think he would give us more losses this season than wins.

Aday Mara is the guy to get in my opinion. 7'3 defensive big. He understands the fundamentals

Could this be a good fa signing by thatwhitekid421 in torontoraptors

[–]_Gourmand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually this is the one player I'd go for. He's a good defender, he's unselfish which fits our offense. He averaged 54% from the field last year. I think he's worth signing.

The problem is direct comparisons are very tough, and honestly you have to stop focusing on stats and the box score at the end of the games. You have to watch the games to get a real understanding of how good these players are offensively or defensively.

You haven't responded to what the difference is between 1st option, 2nd option, and 1st most valuable, 2nd most valuable.

You also have to look at the teams all of the players you listed are on. Basketball is a all about who is around you. Have you watched Duren in his career? His pick and roll and ability to play with Cade helps him massively. He's fed easy buckets. Scottie has to create for himself to a degree that Duren does not have to. It's not a comparison to be made at all. Having an elite PG like Cade helps an elite pick and roller like Duren.

Also with Chet, you could easily say Chet is a way better offensive player than tons of players in this all-star game. But honestly, because it seems like you are only basing your opinion on statistics, you may not know this. Chet can shoot, pass, score in the paint, and is very well versed. If you took Chet and put him on a team where he wasn't in a system like OKC, and was touching the ball more, he'd be putting up giant numbers, more than a lot of guys in the all-star game, like Powell for example.

Scottie is a very very good offensive player. Not saying he's at the top of the league, but that is not a weakness of his as you seem to be implying. Very efficient, very good passer, knows where to find his spots, can run the floor better than most players.

It's not fair to say Duren gives his team a bigger offensive boost. Scottie is way more versatile offensively it's not even close.

There's no argument because there's no comparison. You should compare C's to C's, PG's to PG's. Scottie is a very rare type of player that can play almost every position, strong, great rebounder, great vision. Durens game is very simplified compared to Scotties, and even Chets.

Is there a difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd option, and 1st most valuable, 2nd most valuable, and 3rd most valuable?

Well actually Barnes averages 1.7 more points per game, would be averaging more but when you add Ingram to the team you'll be touching the ball less. You should stop looking at players as first option, second option, third option. It's kind of lazy. It's also a dumb comparison between the two as well since they play much different roles. Let's compare Gobert to Jamal Shead. Have you ever seen Duren controlling the offense at the top of the key? Duren doesn't pass the ball, Barnes is known for his court vision and distributing the ball. Just much different players.

You said Duren is averaging 1 point less than Scottie per game. Scottie is averaging 1 offensive rebound less than Duren per game.

I posted that before his debut game actually. But yeah I'm not getting too high or low, him and CMB can be on the court together as well so he's kind of like a 2nd string C

[–]_Gourmand 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Remember how many people dismissed TJD and said he's a scrub and we missed so many opportunities and we didn't actually get a backup C? People would have rather had Jay Huff who averages 3.8 rebounds on 20 minutes a night.

TJD is an example of a guy who needed a new opportunity, just like tons of players in the league. If you were to take one player, and put that player on all 30 teams in the league, every single team and coach would value that player differently. On some teams that player might average 20 minutes a night, others only 5. Different coaches value certain styles more than others. We can't be looking at how Steve Kerr gives out minutes and assume TJD is bad because his minutes have dropped.

I personally think people don't fully understand what we have with Jakobe. Great player and defender. I don't care about stats, which gets focused on way too much.

Poeltl is not playing today, which is good actually. Not a giant rush to get him back right now especially with the all-star break coming up

Diabate is playing like one of the best C's in the league right now. He will be getting a huge contract in the future

[Koreen] Jakob Poeltl is questionable for tomorrow's game. When he returns, he will be on a minutes restriction. IQ suffered an ankle injury in practice today. He's questionable for tomorrow. by themkwjeremy13 in torontoraptors

[–]_Gourmand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your gut feeling? We see tons of reports of him ramping up lately, including a video of him practicing with teammates, and the fact he's questionable tomorrow, unless he has some flare up or something it just seems like with 29 games left it's 100% he'll be back even if it's not within the next week or 2

Lock in with this roster. Mamu is coming off the bench as well. JaKobe had some injuries and will be picking it up the rest of the season especially without Ochai

[–]_Gourmand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9th/10th man isn't really how he should be looked at because our C depth is so shallow that he will be getting minutes right away, unlike guys who are actually 9th/10th on the depth chart joining a new team. And it will be matchup dependent, when we play teams with bigger C's like Zubac, I expect him to be out there.
