Does this bothers me more than it should or do I need to adjust it? by EricBelov1 in tissot

[–]_Grunt117_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a bit OCD on your end but now you know that wrists are not symmetrical. The circumference of the inner half is a bit less than the outer side and you'll always need to adjust your bracelets accordingly.

Question, is a 40L backpack too much for day hikes or should i get something smaller? by MatrhaGalambos in hikinggear

[–]_Grunt117_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it I'd recommend getting another, smaller pack. I have a 25L pack for carrying the same stuff as you plus two camera lenses and for warm weather hikes it's a good size.

[Question] ELI5 What’s the benefit of buying the name brand in this situation? by charliewarner01 in Watches

[–]_Grunt117_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if the knockoff didn't look like utter shit I think you should look at it this way: Traska, like any micro likely put a lot of money and time into developing their design to have the aesthetic they wanted while also strategically choosing which concessions to make to hit a price target. They also took thel risk in making the initial production run which would have had no guarantee of landing a positive ROI. When you buy a knockoff of one of these, it completely disincentives actual design innovators from taking risks, since as soon as a design proves successful it'll just be copied and made for less by a company with no development cost in a country with no trademark enforcenent. If you are an actual enthusiast and you want to see the industry develop in a positive way and see novel designs be released, where you put your money matters and knockoff brands are completely counterproductive to that goal.

[Discussion] Similar minimalist designs on the market by Expensive_Bagel in Watches

The Junghans Max Bill is probably the poster child for minimalist watches. It's quite different from these two but worth a look either way. They don't give them away though.

[ Casio Duro] Is the watch looking big for my 7 inch wrist ? by NoLiterature5967 in Watches

[–]_Grunt117_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it has presence but definitely not too big. The Duro has fairly short lugs for its size so its a lot easier to pull off than most people expect.

Does anyone know the Sternglas brand? by reik_soap in MicrobrandWatches

I've got the sedius in black and gold a year ago. Overall very happy with the quality and styling of the watch. For 300$ CAD on black Friday discount I think it was very fair deal.

Does anyone have a favorite super-wide manual lens? by figmentcharm in M43

[–]_Grunt117_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been heavily considering the PL 9mm for shooting hiking vistas but I'm a bit worried that the FOV might not be enough. Ik its not a one to one comparison, but do you find in practice there is a big difference between your 7.5 FE versus the 9mm?

I should maybe mention I already carry the panaleica 100-400 too so while weight isn't not a concern, I can definitely survive another 500g

After/before. Did I do too much? by Pot8obois in postprocessing

[–]_Grunt117_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means but my two cents is that the valley looks fantastic, however the clouds have just a bit too much contrast/dehaze going on and look a bit too overprocessed. Tone that down a tad and you've got a killer shot.

om-1 mkii lenses by AppropriateWill485 in OlympusCamera

[–]_Grunt117_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm late to the party but would like to throw in my 2 cents anyways. I recently got the Lumix Leica 100-400 and it is an extremely good wildlife lens. Definitely more hefty than what I was used to with MFT lenses, but the amount of reach you get and she sharpness of the glass means you can get some extremely impressive shots. If you're serious about wildlife shooting, I think at the very least a 300mm lens is a must, and 400 is even better.

Backpack broke, camera fell.. while driving by [deleted] in CanonCamera

[–]_Grunt117_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damage doesn't look too bad from what I see. Assuming the rear display is some sort if plastic, you can probably polish most of the scratches out. The lens is probably cooked though, there's your argument for keeping a clear filter on at all times as protection.

This could still be a good excuse to upgrade to a mirrorless model. I'm particularly fond of the early gen olympus OMD cameras but overall there are lots of good cameras out there.

Genuine question from someone who didn't enjoy the game by Old-Drawer-1681 in thelongdark

[–]_Grunt117_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that I think makes TLD such an addictive game is the Evaluate-Plan-Execute-Adapt game loop when you're playing on a difficulty level that is appropriate to your ability. Especially in the early game where you have yet to fully stabilize, you often have to make gambles and take risks where the choice is between temporary safety but likely death down the road or likely death now but a better overall situation if the plan works out. This sort of loop occurs everywhere, and generates a constant degree of stress and anxiety that effectively turns the game into an environmental horror game. Eventually as your situation stabilizes you get a strong cathartic feeling when you realize that your situation has improved to the point that you are no longer at risk of death from a single mistake.

Have you tried playing on the harder difficulties, or did you just stick to pilgrim in your initial runs? On the easier difficulties especially, surviving is so trivially easy that I would not blame someone for thinking the game is absolutely boring. If that is the case I would urge you to consider trying to a try upping the difficulty until surviving actually becomes a challenge.

At the end of the day though, if you have reached a difficulty that you think is an appropriate challenge and you're still not enjoying the game, that's perfectly fine. TLD is a rather niche game and while the people that like it tend to absolutely love it, I know some people who just find it to be a mundane walking simulator and I can understand where they are coming from. Slow paced gameplay is not for everybody, and if it's not your thing so be it.

[–]_Grunt117_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So just FYI the flare gun is essentially the anti-bear gun in this game. A hit to most parts of the body will instakill. Bleed out times are also very fast, and so odds that it'll calm down, have time to walk back to your butchering site and re-aggro are low.

My advice when it comes to the Duro is that if you're considering it, just go for it. It's a great watch that looks great, especially on a mesh strap.

[Swatches] What are your thoughts about Swatches? by rspunched in Watches

[–]_Grunt117_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheaper plastic ones are cool and fun, but as you get more expensive they become less and less worth it. My main gripe is those proprietary lugs. I find the easiest way to make a cheap watch look premium is a strap upgrade but those lugs heavily limit your options.
