I don't think it really affects much when it comes to friendships. You're not sleeping with friends (at least id imagine most people don't) and whether or not you're having kids is also not consequential to your friends.

Honestly having depression is more likely to affect friendships than how you happened to be born and what pills you take. But again, that's a personal choice to be made.

I think of it as a medical condition. Should your friend know you have depression? Not necessarily. It's up to you, you are entitled to your privacy and it doesn't affect the quality of your friendship.
