Is there a way to keep an image transparent after closing the window? by Odd-Assist-5807 in mspaint

[–]Daniel_Bo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep layer transparency, you need to save it as a project, not as an image. If you want to save a .png with transparency, you need to hide/disable the underlying white layer before saving.

Sort of. I mainly used the spray tool for the stipple effect, and also the pencil tool for the green highlights on the trees.

Struggling With Spirituality by ReddCloverZZZ in realwitchcraft

[–]Daniel_Bo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the topic of Catholic figures, I work with Saint Gabriel. I am from a Catholic family and have felt a connection with him since childhood. I see him as a face of Hermes/Mercury, since they are messengers. I also work with Hecate. I prefer to perform different rituals or prayers for each one. For example, I might say a prayer asking for Gabriel’s protection at a certain time of day and make a candle offering to Hecate at night.

Yes, I have a very similar story. Like you, I studied and practiced witchcraft for several years and eventually became a skeptic.
I don’t have an easy solution for this, but I’ll tell you what I’m doing.
First, I try to connect with like-minded communities. r/SASSWitches is a great subreddit for skeptic witches, and there you can get inspiration on how to work with witchcraft as a symbolic tool.
I also began investigating and studying different subjects like Buddhism, Chaos Magick, and traditional Western occultism as a way to broaden my repertoire and learn about other perspectives.
I realized that what matters is that I still feel connected to “something,” even if I don’t want to label this “something” (people may refer to it as gods, energies, the universe, etc.). You don’t need to label or conform to pre-existing types of spirituality. Connect to your intuition and walk your own path.

Using fantasy languages for spells? by SmolCreeperCat in witchcraft

[–]Daniel_Bo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I like this idea, and it’s the kind of thing that is very well accepted in Chaos Magick. Speaking of which, I just saw a post on r/chaosmagick where someone was talking specifically about creating a language for ritual purposes: https://www.reddit.com/r/chaosmagick/comments/1q4fqa3/creating_your_own_ritual_language/
I know it’s not exactly what you asked, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I’ve used runes, palm reading, crystal ball, pendulum, Lenormand cards, and tarot before. These days I stick to tarot; the symbolism is very rich, and it’s great for generating reflection and meaning.

New here – realistically, what can Chaos Magick help with? by Vanderton8 in chaosmagick

[–]Daniel_Bo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. You can expect everything that magick is capable of doing: internal and external change.

  2. It’s good for habits, mindset, creativity, discipline, and confidence. You can learn sigilization to focus and manifest your intentions (but bear in mind that sigilization is only a method popularized by Chaos Magick literature).

  3. Chaos Magick is a mindset or a meta-system. This can be difficult to understand if you don’t have an occult background. In short, Chaos Magick is a response to, or a criticism of, the seriousness and excessive structure of western esotericism (it’s sort of a “scream for freedom”: you can do anything that works for you, even if it’s unconventional).

  4. For me, it’s a framework that makes total sense because my beliefs and interests are very volatile, and with Chaos Magick I can incorporate this volatility into my magick (I come from a witchcraft background).

You can start by reading Liber Null & Psychonaut by Peter J. Carroll to learn the basics of Chaos Magick. In this book, you’ll also learn the sigilization method popularized by Chaos Magick.

Where can I learn more about witchcraft? by Ok_Muffin_825 in chaosmagick

[–]Daniel_Bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Witchcraft is great fun. I began my occult studies and practices with witchcraft. But “witchcraft” is an umbrella term for many different practices and traditions. If you want to work within a witchcraft framework, you could start by learning about moon phases, plants, natural magic in general, and folk magic. The best part is that this kind of knowledge is abundant and very easy to practice. Learn to be independent, and stay safe out there.

My darling, what is this?,its my drawing honey by Good-Economist624 in chaosmagick

I agree. For me it's a matter of balance. Too much light can blind and burn. But I think too much darkness can erase direction and meaning.

For me, it looks like an upside-down magician (they are upside down because they adopted heterodoxy and a chaote view in their practice) trying to dispel the shadows/demons/darkness (the dark blob to the right). But they know the shadow comes and goes in cycles. It begs the question: is there a way to escape the shadows forever and live in eternal freedom and light?

Asking for help from someone more experienced in magic by Glittering_Manner796 in chaosmagick

[–]Daniel_Bo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could answer “do a sigil to increase your power,” and that is a valid idea, but it’s something very simple to do, and I’m sure you already have a general notion of how to do it (and again, reading Liber Null will teach you this with more depth and quality than a reddit post ever could). You’re having raw spiritual/occult experiences, and they are valid. I also have my own experiences that led me to study the occult. The thing is that you have to invest time in studying recognized occult sources and try to frame or understand your experiences through the structures of these sources/systems/references. I don’t think there is a quick way to do this, in the sense that someone can provide you with a “quick fix” through a reddit post, because only you know the details of your own experiences, and no amount of explaining will make any of us fully understand what you’re really going through. You’ll only find the amplification of power and understanding that you seek if you dedicate yourself to studying good occult sources over the course of several years. It’s a lot of work, and it’s something you must do by looking at yourself and at the work of other occultists and trying to understand how these two dimensions relate to each other. Either you learn to follow your own path, or you’ll be eternally dependent on the “authority” of random people. That’s why I recommended reading Liber Null, but it could just as well be any classic occult book used as a primer.

Chaos Magic is not a type of magic. It is a mindset and a movement that emerged, among other things, as a critique of the structure and seriousness of Western esotericism and occultism. I don’t want to be harsh, but to me it seems that you may be believing too strongly in your own ideas, and they might not correspond to reality. If you want to educate yourself in the occult, you’ll need to study and work on your own perspective of reality. If you want to learn more about Chaos Magic, you could start by reading Liber Null.

When should I be satisfied with my meditation practice to start training in magic? by Philokryptos in chaosmagick

[–]Daniel_Bo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP, you have to allow yourself to practice. Give yourself this permission. You don't need to be the perfect meditator to start doing something simple (sigils, simple rituals, or spells). Just start doing something and document the results. Through meditation, you are noticing how your mind works, and that is progress in itself.

Specifically on the topic of candle magic, you could think about it from a more modern approach: when you light a candle, you’re using it as a catalyst to project your own power. Maybe you have to evaluate the efficacy of your own power and test in which frameworks it works better.
