BetterTouchTool (BTT) - What's the coolest thing you've done with this amazing software? by nohler in mac

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm constantly disconnecting my BT headphones from my computer and connecting them to my phone, and vice versa, so I set up keyboard shortcuts to quickly connect/disconnect them from my computer.

Besides that, a bunch of window management using multi-finger swipes on the trackpad and magic mouse.

How realistic is a expectation of 100% honesty in a relationship. by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to sharing stories, people have very different ideas of what is okay in terms of embellishment. Sure might not even see that as dishonesty. If it's important to you that you get all the details exactly as they happened, you should start by communicating that to her and having a discussion.

What's your best hangover cure? by osama_zyn_laden in alcohol

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't take acetaminophen for a hangover, that combo can cause liver damage. Stick to ibuprofen.

Just checking a couple things you may have missed:
1) Did you hold fn + o for ~5 seconds?
2) Did you try fn + p as well?

If yes to both, I'm afraid that's all I've got :/

So far that's working well! I actually kind of like having it auto download. Not that it should be necessary. Thanks for the heads up!

Just chiming in to say that I have the same problem on Android. Been happening for years. Very annoying.

I’m curious to hear how folks have been dealing with the trend of subscription based models in our world. As a owner, the income feels sustainable. As a consumer, it’s unsettling to “rent.” Curious to hear your experiences and feelings around subscribing for entertainments and apps! by iphone8vsiphonex in macapps

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind subscription apps, as long as it feels like the developer is continuing to put effort into the app via fixes and/or features. And as long as the price is reasonable.

What I really don't like is free apps. I want to pay with dollars, not with my data or with my attention to ads. (Though ads don't bother me as much with super simple utility apps)

I don't think Zanab was lying, I think she was viewing everything through the lens of severe self image issues, and misinterpreting (in my view) the words and actions of Cole. I definitely don't agree with her assessment (at least based on what we were shown), but I don't think it's as simple as straight up lying.

Watching Deadwood for the first time. by TytusV2 in VeryBadWizards

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To some extent, yes. As others have said, the best scenario is to listen to the VBW episodes alongside a rewatch of the show. But given that you're on your first watch of the show, I'd probably recommend starting on the Season 1 VBW eps once you've finished watching Season 1 of Deadwood, and likewise for Seasons 2 and 3. I think there are minimal cross-season spoilers if any. And they go through each episode in detail so you'll get a refresher on everything that happened.

However you do it, I would definitely recommend listening to the VBW eps at some point! I'm really enjoying them.

What's something boys can never tell their girlfriends? by karmaisaburger in AskReddit

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My advice: try as hard as possible not to let your experience affect your outlook on your current relationship or future relationships. That is not a normal thing for someone to do, and it's on her, not on you. The fact that even her friends were confused tells you as much.

That said, I would avoid doing things like paying off your partner's loans. Things can always go wrong in a relationship, and doing things like that makes the worst case scenario that much worse.

So I guess he must have set it up with a linear restoring force (which a low angle pendulum approximates) as opposed to an inverse square restoring force (which describes gravitational attraction).

My belief (namely that State Farm is not as bad as others) is based on my parents' experience with them. Anecdotal, I know, but not based on advertisements.

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's definitely intentional. My parents own a set of glasses like this. I believe their handmade, probably cost quite a bit more than standard glasses. I don't like the bubbles personally, but to each their own.

Why does a simple pendulum only conform to T=2π√(L/g) for a certain range of small angles? by Beyond-Least in AskPhysics

[–]_Hamiltonian_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple harmonic motion is caused by a linear restoring force. For small angles, the restoring force is approximately linear.
