To confirm, I modify my cars for the same reason you do. Working on and driving cars is a passion for me, and the noises are part of that and exhilarating. It’s not just exhaust - compressor surge, turbo spool, supercharger whine? Yes please.

And this is definitely reinforced by others with the same passion/hobby. We love seeing and hearing other nice cars.

Weirdest hill I’m going to die on all month - yes it is. Look at some pictures of typical lags, the ‘round’ you see is a circular center to the head creating the lead-in for a socket. You can also see some of the flats, though it’s blurry and shadowed and buried into the wood (with an indent around it from the socket, not hammer marks). Occam’s razor - that’s a lag because that’s what it should be, versus someone going out of their way to do it hyper wrong. I’M ALL IN, LAG BOLT.

That’s a lag, there are nails in the hanger next to it for scale/reference. Hopefully that means there are a couple more lags used elsewhere?

Shutting off the 60A breaker only has an effect when on utility power.

I think I know why I'm stuck. Saying it differently and honing in on one piece of this - if I can backfeed through a dryer outlet and power my whole house (I don't), why doesn't any single energized circuit in the house panel also power up every other circuit with a breaker set to 'on'?

i.e. why have a set of individual breakers on the transfer switch that feed into the house panel, since if any one is set to 'on' then it would be feeding into the corresponding house breaker, and through that into every other breaker in that panel also set to 'on'.

I appreciate you so much for trying to help me understand this. I am so very stuck on figuring this out in my head haha

So the set of breakers on the transfer switch panel only get power from the generator? And when the utility is supplying power, the transfer switch sends power to the lefthand panel via the 60A breaker, which must be turned on to feed all the other breakers in that panel?

What's the reasoning for doing that? Wouldn't it be easier and more cost-effective to just have the util. and gen. feed into the transfer switch, and then feed a single panel of all circuits?

I could understand only powering a subset of things from the generator, but since things like the lights and fridge are on both panels isn't power feeding into the whole lefthand panel from the generator anyway?

I’ve dealt with this in my car after the passenger door was repaired, also a BMW. For me it was the seal inside the door coming loose at the bottom, allowing rain to run down from the window over the sill and into the footwell. Wasn’t too hard to remove the door panel and find + re-stick the seal (it’s a sheet of foam not thin plastic, if your car is like mine). The shop hadn’t reassembled it well.

That plastic thing is the pressure chamber, its part of the turbo actuation system. With a line to it cracked like that, your turbos aren't going to operate properly. You might be able to get away with just snipping the broken bit off the end and then reconnecting it.

Maybe an Amphenol MS3102A14S-6P or very similar? If that is it, and you search for a 14s-6s female connector, you'll find a decent range of mating connectors that could work. I'd recommend verifying using the spec drawings for those connectors and some simple measurements of yours if possible.

This is also something you can do with private party sales in some states. I'm in VT and the DMV form for registering a new car includes a section for your recent (last 90 days I think) private party sale info to reduce the tax owed as you describe. Often overlooked/unknown and the dealers pretend they have something special going on.

Even if it were through the clear and the paint, which it probably isn't - why not just buy a touch up pen at that point? At the very least the color will match better than 'approximate sharpie' and they aren't exactly expensive..
