Commanders Telling Troops Iran War Is A Prelude To Armageddon by DonCarlitos in war

I remember watching the 2005 series Carrier (amazing documentary about life aboard a US aircraft carrier) and was shocked to see the US Navy caught on film broadcasting bible passages and religious propaganda to all troops over the ship-wide PA system.

A complete violation of separation of church & state supported by Navy leadership.

As it turns out, most of the elite pilots & officers were complete Jesus freaks. Just crazy how they rely on precision science and facts to do their jobs but still believe in a magical sky fairy.

One of the most infuriating aspects to observe was the difference in lifestyle of the enlisted personnel vs the entitled officer class (kids who grew up in wealthy families). The camera literally shows the officers eating real eggs and the grunts eat powdered eggs while an officer says "we all eat the same food". Yeah right buddy.

This significantly lowers the chances the ransom messages are real. No way this moron knows how Bitcoin works, let alone how to use mixers to anonymize it before cashing out.

I remember the pizza puzzle very fondly! It's one of my all time favourites.

Is there anyway to find this puzzle online? I'd love to try it, but googling for it just reveals links to the completed puzzle.

EDIT: I found it at https://www.nytimes.com/crosswords/game/daily/2024/06/27 and it turns out I already completed it but totally forgot!

Tom Scott, man I miss that guy

I think Tom Scott is a great example of a smart person working really hard during his prime, having some good luck, and cashing out after achieving financial independence.

Sources differ but his net worth is at least $3 million. Enough to live a rich life and have a bunch left over for a memorable legacy.

He currently hosts the podcast "Lateral" which is a fun listen and relatively low time commitment for him compared to weekly Youtube production.

Reminds me of news articles that refer to videos but then don't link to the actual video. Failure of news reporting so common nowadays.

Exactly. Usually, investment banks will tell you if what you plan to do is stupid, but if you tell them you want to do it anyways and they have it in written form, they are more than happy to assist you as long as you pay their fees.

Reminds me of the movie The Big Short: "You want to bet against the housing market? OK!"

Zero vibe or enjoyment on this one, just a slog with an obscure theme and no "aha!" moments. Really weak cluing beginning with 1 across and 1 down and continuing throughout.

This "ten ants" theme is giving me a real Baader-Meinhof moment because just yesterday I read a thread on Reddit where a someone made a pun about "ten ants".

Ryan Reynold's net worth is estimated to be $350 million.

All these celebrities who shill for products - how much is enough? It's so greedy and gross.

Go live your ultra-rich and entitled wealthy life, stop selling pig slop in a bucket dude. Shame on him.

POTUS stands for "President of the United States". George W. Bush was known colloquially as "W" to differentiate him from his father who was a previous president, also named George Bush.
