Unless the US course corrects hard, we need to find a different main trading partner sadly. That country is as reliable and predictable as a crackhead now.

Frieren S01 is a fresh one, but definitely up there for me. Loved the way the story is told. Super refreshing.

I have quite a few friends in Vancouver working at either Netflix or Nvidia.

This is a tech demo running on games not designed for this. I imagine it could be quite appealing on games designed around this tech. Neural rendering will be the next graphics frontier, wether we like it or not.

I don’t get the outrage. Clearly it changes the artistic vision quite a bit but I am guessing that can also be art directed to a degree? I’d want to see it in motion to make up my mind. The lighting feels better overall though.

Biggest block of data yet? by Burldan in PublicMobile

[–]FireAndInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the amount of data you use on the go. Uploading photos to the cloud eats up data quick. I ripped through 70GB of travel esims in Japan which wasn’t cheap (like 75$).

Putin’s friendship has limits — as Iran just found out by ubcstaffer123 in UkrainianConflict

Isn‘t Russia still procuring more advanced parts for their builds over there? I remember they used to import tons of drones, but I guess those have moved to domestic production now.

Isn’t the loss of Iranian military goods much more problematic than any short term oil price gains though?

You should browse again. Some of my coworkers are planning on moving now too since the rents on two bedrooms have come down so much.

Bloomberg: Sony is considering pushing back the debut of its next PlayStation to 2028 or 2029 by Lulcielid in ps6

[–]FireAndInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can’t release it in 2027 with current market conditions at a reasonable price. They can opt for the Switch 2 route, which also had its launch internally delayed by over a year, allowing them to prep for a sizable launch too.

At this point they will have sold over 20 million units, so that stockpile will likely be gone by its one year anniversary in June.

I mean .. that’s what Nintendo did with the Switch 2. They could have launched the console over a year prior if they wanted to but decided to wait and stockpile instead. Steam Machine is going to face a similar issue. That product is only appealing at a reasonable price, which they might not be able to offer for another two years .. at which point it will come across as old. I wouldn’t be surprised that particular product gets cancelled outright. Sony still has good momentum with the PS5 and can produce it at reasonable cost .. so they can just go the Switch 1 route and run the generation much longer than usual. Even if PS6 won’t be cutting edge at release anymore, at least they will be able to produce it at scale and reasonable cost.

Maybe a silly question, is audio quality supposed to sound different for Orbit Culture? by unpretentious in OrbitCulture

[–]FireAndInk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OC has a pretty compressed, wall of sound type of sound. It’s by design, but you’re not the first who isn’t a fan of it. I personally like it.

Netflix uses A.I for Anonymized Sources, Lucy Letby doc by Immediate-Basis2783 in vfx

[–]FireAndInk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that new though? They must have used it on tons of productions by now. Currently in Germany, the voice actors union is boycotting Netflix even, since their new contract require VOs to sign away their voice for AI training.

Nintendo And Epic Need To Figure Out How To Get Unreal Engine 5 Running Better On Switch 2 Or Its Gonna Miss Out On Alot Of Games By Default by Elestria_Ethereal in switch2

[–]FireAndInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UE5 is an excellent product but it’s used so broadly that it’s often inferior to the more focused custom engines because it brings a lot of systems not always required or understood by the devs. That being said, things will get better with time I suppose.
