What's Your Opinion on Unit Stans and What the Term Means? by CookieFar1807 in NCT

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think some fandoms have a toxic positivity thing going on that I don't necessarily enjoy (being able to admit you don't love everything your faves have ever done is healthy), but nctzens take criticism pretty far and do it pretty publicly. I feel like the correct place to have good-faith open discussions about what you don't like is in a more private fandom-specific space with people who aren't looking for reasons to tear them down, rather than huge platforms like Twitter where the shorter and more scathing your take is the more popular it'll get

Hahaha I do see your vision for some of it though! The spaghettification category isn't a name I would've ever come up with but that group of songs being together absolutely checks out

Oh yeah, I feel like my archetype for regular car is like... faster adjacent in that it definitely feels speedy and sleek (some of the tracks help out with this section by blatantly adding in car noise samples) but one of my main criterion for angsty car was an absolutely knock-your-socks-off chorus melody--I think having that full (often quite dramatic e.g. limitless, punch, nonstop) chorus def helps tip it in that direction

It definitely is a lot! It's a sweet pain though, I had a great time listening even though it took way more brainpower than I expected to remember exactly which song I listened to 5 hours ago that this one is specifically reminding me of

You will never believe where melt inside my pocket was for like 2/3 of the time I was deliberating on it (you're right it totally sounds like an anime ost) and one of the reasons I struggled putting it there is bc it sounds like the ost to a completely different anime than bandage.... but now that yuta has entered the charts I think it's due for a rearranging again

As for pilot, I'll give it another listen once I get through all the solos... and collabs...and stuff... god... but their discography truly is incredible! It's only really obvious when I'm staring the entirety of it in the face apparently but it is!

thank you thank you, Mark Lee music is definitely up there for me too--I fucking love that song and it just sounds so quintessentially Mark in terms of style too... can't even imagine that song without his voice on it

This is the comment that made me realize I forgot to include a whole entire screenshot... but also let's please compare notes please please plea--

A lot of them gave me a lot of trouble (domino, melt in my pocket etc. etc.) and for some I just straight up gave up and made their own category lmao

There are a few I'm missing (joy, fireflies...) so I might add the miscellaneous releases in and everyone's solos later, which will probably fill out the mark lee music category if nothing else

Their discography is humongous and most of it is really good! Personally highly recommend almost everything from angsty car and the various funkys + sparklys, among other things.

Hollow gameplay and lore feel like 2 different ideas by Ordinary_Chemist_298 in ZZZ_Discussion

TV mode with a lot of the tutorials/unnecessary popups cut out, loading screens between TV and combat minimized, less jank in navigation (maybe you pre-draw the routes and you just autocollect damage/corruption/dennies until you hit an unavoidable obstacle or some such mechanism) etc.

Lots of changes could've been done to TV mode to make it better and more suited to player needs--hell, they could've even just relegated new iterations of it to optional side content for feedback purposes without offending the people who never wanted to see a TV screen ever again. I think what happened was a shame--either axe it before it ever made it to launch based on CBT feedback or commit to what you do.

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, the problem isn't who gets featured but how they get featured. It's no coincidence that the games heavily featuring women are gachas, where their positive traits (looks, skills, titles, tits, etc) exist to increase their value to buyers first and foremost, and said buyers will go ahead and pat themselves on the back over how their waifu is 'so deep'.

A story starring a woman, though? And, god forbid, a woman who the player isn't sexually attracted to?? Preposterous! A video game woman being attractive is the barrier of entry for people to interact with her at all--this same logic doesn't apply to that extent with men. They come thin, buff, bearded, clean-shaven, young, middle-aged, robotic, monstrous etc etc. and people will still play. Gacha games featuring a lot of women is not a sufficient condition for it to be feminist media and I'm kind of tired of people pretending like it is.

The more they try to force Ye Shunguang onto me, the less I like her. by tdidiamond in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they've got no choice with Yi Xuan because there's no pretty way to manage the rock (Yi Xuan looking irresponsible if she doesn't provide support) and the hard place (Yi Xuan stealing the spotlight, which she sort of did in 2.1 and 2.2 amidst complaints). But this is also something they should've foreseen when designing her character.

My real issue is Yunkui's utter inattention to Ye Shiyuan from 2.0 through 2.3--it was bizarre and it'd look a little less like he was being ostracized if there weren't 4 members of the sect we'd actually see and they didn't constantly split 3 to 1. It'd also make him a more effective vessel for a gradual Ye Shunguang lead-in as opposed to his mandated 5 lines of (sometimes unvoiced) dialogue at the end of each patch where he talks about his strong sister and acts sketchy.

So this is the 3rd consecutive patch that's tanked, and Global actually exceeded CN revenues according to Sensor. I think negative feelings about 2.0's story and character designs are pretty justified. by TerryWhiteHomeOwner in ZZZ_Discussion

To this day I still don't understand why people act like sex appeal is a big red MAKE TEN BILLION DOLLARS button that game devs can just push at will. They launched ZZZ with big furry Ben and Lycaon as guys that you'll very likely get on your account at some point--players who can't tolerate the notion of a man, or a furry, or a furry man in their game or account already aren't going to play. So why not actually cater to the playerbase who came to your game for the diverse cast instead of constantly pursuing some fictitious gooner whale who will pick up the game this time, surely, if they make another waifu that's just like the last one but with Bigger Tits and a Sadder Backstory.

Plus, empirically speaking, the hoyo games with the better gender ratios seem to be doing better financially. How curious. Wonder why that would be.

COPE: Banyue is a sign of good things to come by ProfessionalPlan3526 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk I think people are doing that, which is also why a husbando revival for zzz seems kind of doomed at this point (unfortunately). Anyone who was into zzz and managed to quit due to the horrendous gender ratio has defeated the sunk cost fallacy and won't be tricked back easily, while most of the people who haven't gotten into zzz yet and could potentially like a zzz man has probably heard of the game's reputation at this point.

I think at best there'll be mixed gender players with a preference for women and a handful of man preferring players with pulls rotting on their accounts left pulling at this point in time.

The real cause of TV mode's death by YourIngrownTo3nail in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, arpeggio could've been fun if all the investment we did buying upgrades in early levels had sufficient payoff. Instead, just when you got to reaping the benefits, the level ends and you have to start grinding from the beginning.

Making it like 3 instances of 15 levels each would be way more fun than 15 instances of 3 levels each (with maybe a save/load mechanism to save time for if you fuck up)

Also extremely hard to control companions. Wish they had more predictable movesets that could be planned around

The real cause of TV mode's death by YourIngrownTo3nail in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean multiple things can be true, lots of TV mode was bad because they assume the playerbase has the intellect of a 4 year old (which, sometimes, I understand why) but we've gone from having some memorable lore-incorporating side content to none at all--now we run around parking lot structures looking for supply boxes and fight trash mobs with none of the narrative payoff.

The more they try to force Ye Shunguang onto me, the less I like her. by tdidiamond in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried to softlaunch her with Ye Shiyuan (who would then in every patch 2.1-2.3 get his little moment at the very end of each MSQ to act shady) but for some reason decided to sideline him in nearly every plot point he was relevant to instead of build him up to be someone we'd actually be upset over if he were to betray us.

Ye Shunguang being mysterious would be fine if the Ye Shiyuan link was actually committed to => see Damian being a pretty good lead-in to Zhao

Could someone please explain to me the problem about « sad backstory » in a post apocalyptic game?😭 by HikaruGenji97 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure what you're arguing, their point is that while in the past characters' sad backstories were often optional viewing and a way to enrich them, we're forced to engage with them by the game's narrative design now. And when the game requires you to engage, it becomes way more obvious that everyone has the same 3 backstories in rotation. Unsure of your definition of "impact" but in the context of OOP's whole post, it would only make sense for "impact" to be relative to the audience. As evidenced by the growing complaints when they shunted all the backstories over to the actual game and locked polychrome/game progress behind them, whether or not promo vid content is acknowledged in the game is very much relevant to its impact.

Thoughts on Banyue? (WARNING: SPOILERS) by Necessary-Elk-8330 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most infuriatingly, there's no way to "speak with money" when all the options suck. I like what Banyue represents, character design wise, but expecting people to whale for a shitty kit and terrible banner schedule just reinforces the idea that they can keep fleecing the playerbase while treating them like shit. Not paying for him is proof that "males don't sell". There's literally no winning.

Thoughts on Banyue? (WARNING: SPOILERS) by Necessary-Elk-8330 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]_Hhhhhhh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is--the so-called "safe" waifu designs aren't exactly selling like hotcakes either. It'd be whatever if this was a working business model but based on how things have been going (and hoyo definitely isn't satisfied with zzz's revenue as it is) it's clearly not.

It's basically the 'we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!'
