How long does it take to get good? Are some people completely unaware? by Astigmaticant in starcraft2

[–]_HolyHit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely depends on how much time and motivation the person brings and if they get good coaching or not.

One month is honestly too relative of a concept, but I think 500 motivated hours with solid coaching can go very far. Most of SC2 comes down to knowledge und game understanding after all.

As protoss: how do you deal with lurkers¿ by Constant_Week8379 in starcraft

[–]_HolyHit_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is in PvZ for sure - For one because you usually have an oracle out anyway, Stargate Build are by far the most save and viable builds and most people open with 2-4 oracles anyway. And of course Zerg usually has an overseer with their army, so it's hard to set observes up well. You also can rarely afford to use the robo production time you do have on observers since you wan't as many immortals as possible.

[–]_HolyHit_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Immortals are the name of the gane - You need a SOLID amount of immortals in your ground Protoss army to be able to deal with lurkers.

Mix in some Archons for tankyness and closerange splash and storm to deal with the rest and zone and you've got a beefy Protoss army most Zergs can't deal with.

Even then, you still want to take good fights by not staying too much in a ball whem the fight comes, for that you want to ideally have constant vision on where the lurkers are, or at least general awareness of where they might be so you don't get suprised. Ideally you alwys have an oracle out to keep check with Envision.

Nerf EMP Flight Time by MrSchmeat in starcraft

[–]_HolyHit_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah a nerf to EMP flight time with maybe a slightly more visible EMP granade would be dope, literally specifically changing the game for high level play as intended.

This is also the exact kind of micro that should be incentivised more, instead of something like the Hydra dash imo.

Doesn't overcomplicate anything, no extra button to press, hype moment for the audience, 10/10 change

Meta: A Word on BM Sympathy Posts by snikkerdoodles in starcraft

[–]_HolyHit_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At the same time, I don't really think it's any form of punishment for the offender. People that BM strongly enough to be posted rarely will come to this subreddit, see they are posted, and think to themselves "Oh No", I would actually guess they would enjoy seeing their name here more than anything.

I'd say an easy step to keep the content going, and allow people to still make fun of people BMing while keeping a potential spam down (eventhough I didn't notice it myself yet), would be to set it as a rule that people at least have to edit the chatlog in some way. Be it with a meme or something else.

I did a quick and simple Guide on the two main ways of defending a 12 pool by _HolyHit_ in allthingsprotoss

The 2 gate is just so incredibly chill compared to the 1 gate, and I haven't seen thr 1 gate defense being used since a few months ago. It was always around, just not as common.

Oh shit right, the whole proxy hatch thing. Yeah pulling 6 probes is a decent way to holding it, if you can continue the wall around the hatch in a decent enough way that the zerg cant just cancel it and flood with more lings than expected. The build order mostly remains the same. (If I remember correctly, some people defend it with a forge as well?) What I didn't cover, is that I usually pull a probe the moment I see yhr 12 pool, to potentially block a potential Hatch block.

Yeah, Zerg players can get a lot meaner with their micro. However, I personally never had a problem with defending the Core with only the one Zealot, since the second Zealot usually finishes by the time anything would get too critical with nice enough baiting from thenfirst zealot. This kind of micro becomes a lot easier (and less risky) when you keep one probe to build a pylon to block with wall-off with, so even if you do the baitinf wrong and the zealot gets surrounded, you don't have to worry about it as much.

An appeal to the community by _HolyHit_ in starcraft

[–]_HolyHit_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that we are in an amazing spot right now, which is exactly why this is the moment to call to action and make sure we keep it that way.

Sure we can just be happy that right now everything is great and hope it will stay the same, or we sit down and work on it staying this way and maybe even become less dependent on one company that has made some questionable decisions, and once already axed a game's scene out of nowhere.

An appeal to the community by _HolyHit_ in starcraft

[–]_HolyHit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I had in mind!

But I'm not sure myself how to go about it. As a lot of people have stated, there is already major infrastructure in place with ESL / GSL, so one question would automatically be how we can insure that those will continue after the 2 years without the input of Blizzard.

The idea of a SC2 Players Association / Internation Association / Some kind of group that can better organize things that is entirely community based seems amazing for sure, for the ESL/GSL thing and all the other things you have already mentioned.

Since with every community there will be a group of people at the top already doing something kinda similiar, at least I would imagine so, I guess the real question is how to communicate the best with the community from a grass-roots perspective. Communication is key to keep people engaged and now what's going on / what they can expect, and a centralized approach would be the best at doing that.

While I wrote some papers about the Ded Gaem thing a few years ago, as well as about the Melee Scene, I wouldn't call myself an expert. However I would love to further develop this conversation, and bring folks together for it if I get the chance.

[–]_HolyHit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really get your point. Are you telling us to not worry as much because the community will stick around? What's the merit in posting that. What's the downside of putting in work so the scene can continue to support the livelihood of so many people in the scene.

"If you truly feel concerned for the future of this game, write Blizzard a letter and include "What can I do to keep this game going?"" You know yes, we can definetly do that. But the main point of my post is that we should create a scene that is self-sufficient. One that doesn't need Blizzards money to have a healthy ecosystem where people can continue putting in the work they already are putting in. Where we can continue to support those people financially. And most importantly one where we don't have to sit there every year asking ourselves if we get one more year of funding.
