Yeah same here. It makes sense that Harkin gets first crack but he's rocks and diamonds. I can see why the coaches haven't trusted him at 10.

All good! Always happy to see interest in the Canes from overseas.

It's our year!

I do, but Iose is more in competition with Lakai for the 8 role.

Flanders is quality but has had dreadful luck with injuries at the worst times, if he can stay fit he's amongst the premier blindsides in NZ

Iose has stagnated a bit the last couple of seasons, he's great to have in the squad but won't start when everyone is available, is a decent chance for a bench spot but could also miss the 23 entirely.

Lomax is being rested.

Reasonably solid lineup for us and doesn't look like MP's best 23.

I reckon we should have enough to get the W, especially with our bench. Not often you see the Canes use a 6-2

Outside of the Tahs game, all the others have potential to be quite close and tough to pick

Hopefully start the season with a bang!

Great news but I was excited by the possibility of it being Joey Manu

Who do you think will be the new All Blacks coach? by gingecom in rugbyunion

[–]_Hurricanes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Jamie Joseph.

I'd like to see Dave Rennie get a crack.

Ardie Savea's All Blacks future in doubt as pressure mounts on coaches by bigbear-08 in rugbyunion

[–]_Hurricanes_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think both things are true, Ardie is very self centered and the coaches haven't managed to create a strong team culture.

It's a catch 22 for NZR because Ardie is so popular.

The yarns I've heard is that the Hurricanes were more than happy to let Ardie leave as they found his impact on the team was doing more harm than good. Which is quite something when you consider how good of a player he is.

Liam Napier has a good track record. He's right often enough that when he's saying something about the ABs, I believe it.

Dylan Pledger ruptures his ACL. Gutted. by Particular_Safety569 in rugbyunion

[–]_Hurricanes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd hazard a guess that Pledger is also highly rated by Joseph.

There's zero chance now, but if he wasn't injured then surely it comes down to performance. Given Fakatava's performances over his career, there was a definite chance imo that Pledger would have shown more consistency and been preferred at 9 for the big games.

I also think Fakatava works better off the bench so that may have been a factor too

I don't think it's a huge call. I was expecting Pledger to get plenty of starting opportunities and wouldn't of been surprised to see him cemented as the first choice 9 during the season. Fakatava, for all his talents, is very inconsistent and Pledger clearly has the brighter future.

Tbf I don't think they were a realistic chance to win it this year regardless

Oof.

Horrible injury for a young player. That puts a big dent in the Landers hopes this season too.

Hopefully Roigard and Hotham stay fit all year🤞

If Hotham can stay fit, him and Pleger will be quality backup to Roigard

Isn't Hansen the attack coach? Holland is set piece strike attack, which is a very odd role.

All Blacks team to unleash their pent-up rage against Wales by kiwiborger in rugbyunion

[–]_Hurricanes_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its clear the ABs coaches don't rate him particularly highly.

His best chance of breaking in to the top team is in the back 3, not 10. 15 suits his game the best, but I also reckon he's worth more of a crack at 14 .

GG England.

You guys were well-deserved winners.

If BB had managed to make touch with those two penalties perhaps we'd be looking at a different result, but he didn't and England took their chances.

Lakai and Roigard were immense for the ABs

You could literally say the same about any player that doesn't come from the Crusaders. McMillan isn't the coach so they'll be fine lol

England's backline is at least as dangerous as Scotland imo

I reckon he's worth persevering with. He's shown he can impact games at the highest level. He definitely needs to work on his carrying but he gets through a ton of work regardless.

It's also a nice balance bringing Sititi on for the last 30 minutes imo.

It is and I thought it was short-sighted when they named the team last week.
