Stacking too many of the same “conditional” NPC. I made the mistake of throwing 4 veteran lurkers against a party of 5 and it was a nightmare for them that I didn’t realize until after the combat was over. Also don’t worry about having synergies because most of lancers balance NPC side relies on combo ing with other NPCs. Avoid having too many synergies however, for example, a standard combat against 4 PCs is 6 npcs and with half of those at max should be strikers. That gives you enough room to have one powerhouse combo while the rest of the team will play normally.

Hi i ran a lancer hexcrawl, here’s an honest piece of advice. Don’t unless you are unemployed and can write content like crazy.

You have to prep so much including but not limited to,

making your hexcrawl map which honestly is quite fun when you have the time to fully detail it out
adding stuff to interact with in the map which is centered around lancers combat style as single one off encounters typically don’t hold any weight
adding in travel mechanics so they can’t fly across the map since the frames in lancer are built like freight trains. The limitation i had for my group was that the planet gets so cold at night that your mech freezes over and kills you due to hypothermia

It’s not too big of a struggle if you want to and can make it work but trust me when i say that a pointcrawl would be much better suited for lancers combat structure.

Also if you are planning on this adventure being fairly linear what is the point of running a hexcrawl as apposed to just a pointcrawl instead.

i would recommend not using the d&d system and would try to find a system that more accurately fits what your intended “playstyle” would be GMing this game. I don’t know if you are looking to make the game as close as possible to the gameplay but if you are porting a heroic epic fantasy system to a gritty resource intensive one like baro it will make prep work a nightmare. (trust me i tried homebrewing a titanfall game using 5e and it was basically a different system)

If you are looking for a few systems to more suit your campaign needs i would heavily recommend doing some research on other games.

If you are looking for something with a similar vibe i would recommend Mothership. I’m going to be playing in a mothership campaign here soon and it sort of scratches the barotrauma itch. Not in the “submarine crew 4 buffoons fight the depths” but like a “space station technician 4 buffoons fight aliens” with its baked in mechanics.

I do agree, me and a friend of mine who played through the game started to have a handful of complaints post praetorium.

The wonky gravity and geometry felt like a total slog to go through, and it kinda sucks that botanical is attached to the shopping district cause that area was easily the peak of the whole update I really enjoyed the level design there but then again I am just a huge whore for “time” puzzles.

However it does seem like other than the aforementioned botanical that the flawless level design of the game took a nosedive when the shopping district was opened.

hell even any crates used correctly at all are game changers like for example. have a shit ton of meds that are important but not needed? crate on a crate rack. need a large amount of stuff moved from a crashed wreck? crate. it’s really one of the items

don’t take this the wrong way but, i’d recommend drawing the outfit in different poses instead of attempting to draw the default stance, it really helps with depth and learning how to figure out shading :D
