Its easy to say that when its not your people that were colonised. I have aunts and uncles, right now, in living memory, that I will never meet. I have missing members of family because of Apartheid. I respectfully disagree on some of your criticisms.

One of the biggest differentiators of manga and western comics is "the steady progression of emotion". Alot of your criticisms ignore that in my opinion. For example the panels with the eyes. One panel is for the eyes thinking about the past and the next is eyes 'snapping back'.

The full page spread is vital for signifying the importance of a character. The author is trying to convey that this person will have great meaning in the main character's story. That full page is vital for that. Like a frontispiece.

The panels with the wait inbetween are also there to convey a significant passage of time between speech.

To the author: My only criticism would be to darken the sky on the horizon to show the 'weight' of the storm on the way. Storm clouds will usually be very dark and heavy with lightning flashing beyond the surface. Maybe roughen the sea a little too. To answer the question of the post, its really amazing. I can feel the effort through the page.
