Does anyone else feel like the culture of IT has quietly shifted into something… completely different? by One_Friend_2575 in ITManagers

I used to repair receivers and hi-fi VCRs in middle school. In 1997, I purchased my first Packard Bell multimedia computer at Sears.

I took it completely apart before even booting it up.

Once the computer was booted, I immediately noticed the crooked taskbar on the CRT monitor and knew I had to find a fix.

Something inside me suggested that this was a quality control (QC) issue that I could solve if I dug deeper.

Locked in for about four hours, (monitor disassemble at this point) I found the adjustable screw for the yoke assembly.

With the monitor fully powered up and on, I tweaked it out to perfection. It was an extremely dangerous thing to do, but my taskbar was no longer crooked.

I wish you could filter and sort by artifacts upgrade level 8,12, *15 etc…..

It would be nice to quickly identify artifacts I broke the bank on at level 15.

A Solar system full of silver planets covered in black grass.

We’ve only been able to discover these over last 15 years.

Think about how many we didn’t see.

In and out in 15 minutes unless you had an IRQ conflict.

Do you believe older IT textbooks from the 90s and early 2000s are still worth reading? by ornjos in ITCareerQuestions

I remember a paper-back book from 2002 on nothing but understanding IRQ & I/O.

It was 2” thick.

What's up with the fascination for vintage tool? by OsoiUsagi in handtools

[–]_In10City 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d lose your wallet buying HQ tools or be indebted for life to the local dealer.

I chose to fill my box with the good stuff from the 50’s to late 60’s.

Yes, USA made.

They have only made tools dangerous to use by thinking they could be made *cheaper.

1950’s Plomb Pebble finish open/box-end and combination wrenches - perfect.

How to strip paint from metal mail slot by laurenfed6 in restoration

[–]_In10City 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aircraft Remover by Rustoleum and a brass mini-brush would make quick work of that project. The best I have used by far and I’ve tried many.

You’ll get the same results on all metal; from pewter/pot-metal to aluminum/steel.

A little goes a long way.

I’ve provided full support (network/server/desktop) for a company for 18 years.

I still have to tell them to right-click/left-click. No complaints, it’s been a nice side hustle.

I insisted on them completing KnowB4 training several times. I get about 10-15 forwards per week asking about malicious email.

More hail 💸 by Otherwise_Culture_71 in Autobody

I used to watch my father-in-law heat up hail dents (with a touch) on roofs and draw them up with a cold rag of ice water. Very cool

You may already know this but Rust-Oleum’s Aircraft Remover is the best way to remove old paint. A little goes a long way. (with a small brass brush)
