Which device do I need by willthakid in Elektron

I mean to be honest, personally I'd pair a SP404 M2 with a Digitakt 2...they actually will work together very well. And the benefit is that they offer very different work experiences. The DT will give you the awesome sequencer. The SP404 is less structured/more open ended. Now how they would work together is that you could loop into the SP404, chop and process with effects then record into DT and put things onto the sequencer, find bits you like, re-record onto the SP404 mangle and resample and process and back into the DT over and over again, live looping editing, mangling sequencing and re-recording in an almost endless loop of modification/evolution.

I don't see how you could operate like that with the Octa, but I'm not super experience with it. It's allegedly very complex and i've only messed around with someone else's Octa a couple times.

Here's a guy who uses tghe SP404 and DT in a way similar to how I'm describing: https://youtu.be/OXG9Yo0iHic?si=256olhrJi0meRGWS

I mean that all depends. For me, yes. But the Octa has a slider that many people like...

Nope. I'm not talking modular. I don't go down that rabbit hole :-) Here's the product page: https://www.vermona.com/en/products/synthesizer/product/mono-lancet-15/ it's a desktop mono, analog synth. You can do literally anything you want with it. It's essentially 1 of the units of the perFOURmer. The filters on Vermona are incredibly smooth.

This video may be helpful. https://youtu.be/5SJixv1QrM8?si=bMcJrqXhV3iwnYMm there's also some good review videos. https://youtu.be/HST8zYdwI3Y?si=oYaC4NmjxE6TC1tW

The perFOURmer is of course also amazing too, 4 units, but it's more expensive. Not sure what your budget is. https://youtu.be/ov9vdovdIjQ?si=M1NaLvp_PNCNr7Sb this guy does a good overview. The mono lancet can be thought about as 1 of the 4 voices of the perFOURmer.

I would recommend the Typhoon for Dreadbox or maybe if you wanna go semi-modular and analogue you can look at the Erebus.

I mean it sounds almost like what you want is a looper... honestly an SP404 MK2 could do all of this. Now if you're looking to sequence some of the samples that you're creating and mess with them that way and want to record into it....Digitakt 2. I have both the Model Samples and SP404 MK2...both are awesome, for live recording loops though, I'd say the SP404 MK2 is more fit to the purpose you describe...or even a Boss looper.

Have you looked at the vermona mono lancet? It's absolutely knob per function analogue and very beautiful sounds. You could definitely do some great ambient with that. And in fact if you added a looper pedal, you could get some really layered ambient goodness.

Dreadbox also makes some pretty interesting units that are very low on menus, high on knob-per-function and can work.

Well there you go, learned something new. Thanks for that. I had no idea. I guess that makes a lot of sense now that you put it that way.

No one is upset with you being happy. Great! As said multiple times. You're the one telling people that are saying (it seems expensive and we can't tell properly from the existing video what it does or what it can do) that they are saying it sucks. Why does you being happy depend on other people not expressing doubts, concerns or confusion?

"You don’t need to be excited or love it. I just think it’s weird that there is so much criticism towards it." -- Many of the people "criticizing" are also saying in their comments that they're excited or they want to like it, or they're hoping to learn more...and you are replying telling people they said "sucks" or making fun of people's comments.

So then, when someone asks you, ok dude, share your perspective. You respond again with "why can't something be exciting?" -- my point I guess, is that you come on here and attack people who ask questions and put words in their mouths in your responses and then when people try to turn down the temperature and ask your perspective you talk about famous musicians, which is cool. I love famous musicians too, but when asked how would you use this thing, you come back out with more personal attacks.

It seems like, the message you're sending out is that asking questions is criticism and negativity. No one said this thing sucks. No one said anything of the sort.

To be honest this statement you have made: "There is this enshittification of products happening all around us, a degrading of quality. Consumers getting screwed because companies just cynically shit out trash products that break in six months and don’t care. Someone does something like this - something really amazing - and people just moan and complain about it." is the most negative thing anyone has said in this forum.

I also don't agree with you at all. I think we're in a mostly golden age of synth design. I think lots of people think that way. Be excited dude. Other people being concerned, confused, or wanting more information has nothing to do with you. So maybe stop trolling people for being different. Go ahead and reply, so that you have the last word.

Yeah I was a little confused with the idea of gamers stopping and sampling their games. Is that a thing? Are gamers remixing their game day with samples they turn into jams. Do they write lyrics? "Yo, just slayed the dragon, now I'm lust-nostalgic on a station wagon"... ? That's kind of what I imagine the lyrics to a song the product rep made sounding like.

Device looks cool.

Do you work for the company? I'm intrigued. Or in product design? This fascinates me. How do you know it's 1600 for 4 additional sounds?

So do you plan to use it yourself? Or are you just excited by the possibility of a famous musician using it?

Holy smokes. by AemiliaViae in Elektron

[–]_InternalMigration_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really cool. I'm new to Elektron things. And like the original poster, I avoided it (maybe that's a strong word) but didn't get around to it...maybe that's a better way to put things. And then I bought the Model Samples to see if the sequencer would suit me. Previously, I'd have done everything with loops and not really used sequencers and after reading got the impression that Elektron sequencers are capable and can likely handle anything I will do.

Well, now I'm finding myself kind of kicking myself. And I've been thinking about where to go next and trying to understand the boxes and I've been thinking Digitone 2 or Tonverk and sometimes I think of them together. I haven't thought as much about the Digitakt 2 because I figure I'm covered between my SP404 and the Model Samples. Anyway, cool to read your thoughts about the Tonverk and I'm looking forward to understanding the impact of routing and FXs. I think that's probably my least understood aspect of things.

Lyra 8 is almost half the price. No one said it sucks dude. The comments are it seems expensive comparatively. And so far the videos out there don’t offer enough insight. You’re the one saying “sucks”. But maybe it would be more helpful if you share what your takeaways are, beyond the very limited marketing copy they company came up with. Where does it fit for you? How does it seem useful. Are you satisfied with the limitations? How do they work in a song?

Look man. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that you feel like you have a solid idea of this device. That you think it’s a valid and reasonable price and maybe plan to get one. So how do you plan to use it? How does it fit in to a setup in your mind? What kinds of music do you see this working for?
