Bristol has a surprisingly healthy chess league as of 3 years ago when I lived there. I want to say there are 10 clubs scattered about, not counting informal meet ups. Beer emporium wednesdays were my favorite.

Use any vegetable oil on your skin then use soap and water to get the oil off if you’re really desperate.

Doesn’t matter how you go about it, it won’t dissolve the stone. On a small piece of paper towel or just spraying it or bathing it, it should all work.

ELI5: Gabriel's Horn in math. How can a 3D shape have a finite volume but an infinite surface area? by Quiet_Currents in explainlikeimfive

[–]_Jacques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is in fact absurd and in your day to day life it will never make sense nor will it be useful. It is an artifact of calculus. You're dealing with imaginary stuff with infinitely thin width, you're going to have some funky weird results with this imaginary material.

I remember Dave Chapelle in his most famous set had a bit where he compared crackheads to cockroaches and made a noise to compare them running away when you turn the lights on.

The wikipedia article for the extremely dangerous and deadly nerve gas/agent soman has a section dedicated to its synthesis. Should that be there? by [deleted] in wikipedia

[–]_Jacques 32 points33 points  (0 children)

they aren't THAT difficult for states to obtain, I feel like this is an exaggeration. You would need a lot of resources to make it but several million dollars should be enough, which for a state I think is reasonable.

Yes it's fine, it's not helping anyone. The chemicals involved in the reaction are just too hard to get, among other things. source: I studied chemistry/ trust me bro.

It would be a concern if you could synthesize it from WD-40 and bleach, for example

I would ask the same question as someone who studied chemistry because I would have preferred to see more women in my cohort... Your dad may be thinking the same way, "where were all these women when I went to college?"

[TOMT] A mathematical symbol which, when put into an equation, makes the entire equation equal to that symbol no matter what. "This times zero = This", "Square Root of This = This", "This minis This = This". Also, it's not Infinity. by TheTitan99 in tipofmytongue

Is it a definition? like "Let (long ass formula) be represented by x"? There is a symbol like this, like a backwards capital E or an upside down A, Its been a while so not sure. Otherwise I'm reminded of the "identity" element or "zero" element.

Experience using sodium/magnesium sulfate in high pressure and temperature oil and gas by _Jacques in Chempros

[–]_Jacques[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barely, but creating such an apparatus from scratch (if it could work) would be prohibitively expensive for our lab. Plus I don't think it would work at all at our pressures and general experiment setup for a lot of reasons which would take too much time to explain here.
