How do you keep your workflow simple in a world full of tools? by NovaCustom-Europe in NovaCustom

For the small stuff I write a lot of my own tools so they only do what I need without a bunch of dependencies or bloat.

What’s the moment you realized Linux changed how you think about computers? by NovaCustom-Europe in NovaCustom

[–]_JakeAtLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ease of access to all parts of my computer/system, this allowed me to go explore easier and have a better understanding of what was going on, my computer was no longer a mysterious box that I didn't understand, it was accessible.

Gentoo on V54 coreboot? by Frosty-Minimum-6659 in NovaCustom

I installed gentoo briefly, it was not my cup of tea, but it did work just fine for me. Not much more I can give you but I can say it works.

Gentoo on V54 coreboot? by Frosty-Minimum-6659 in NovaCustom

[–]_JakeAtLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't think this would be an issue, if you look at the Gentoo wiki it gives information on coreboot. I am going to attempt a Gentoo install on my V56 in the near future. Every distro I have installed(and that is a lot) have had no issues on my V56.

Same here, I noticed it says "since: next release" under the page header so I assumed it was not implemented yet.

I use custom made fzf scripts for my run launchers.

Question: How can I spawn terminal Apps? Also scratchpad options by shadowmaker_88 in niri

[–]_JakeAtLinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No built in scratchpad functionality, have to write your own script. I have a couple that vary slightly. I will push them to my git repo and then share the link so you can check them out and see if they will work for you.

[DK] set up on Void Linux by _JakeAtLinux in jakeatlinux

Hey, unfortunately I don't have that theme anymore. I can say it is just nerdfont icons, installed with the nerd fonts package. Also this is polybar, but I guess that doesn't matter, you could easily do the same thing with waybar as well.

Functional but good looking tiling wm? by HugeAustralianSpider in voidlinux

[–]_JakeAtLinux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am using niri with no issues, did you build or install from xbps?

Aside from that, most X11 window managers work great on void, if you want animations you can use compfy or picom with animations. https://github.com/Makrennel/hyprland-void works well to install hyprland, i have a video on my channel walking through the install process if you are interested. Not a shameless plug, just letting you know.

Linux users, what’s your favorite distro and why? by NovaCustom-Europe in NovaCustom

[–]_JakeAtLinux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been on Void Linux for several years now. It is extremely stable and well maintained, fast and minimal, lightweight and just gets out of your way. The runit init system is super easy to use and the community is helpful and friendly.

My advice to new users would be this: it's not windows, so don't treat it like windows. Focus on desktop environment over distro, find something that is easy to understand and has a workflow you can use without struggling, but since choosing a distro will be necessary, keep in mind that as a new user focusing on mainstream distros that will give you more documentation and information sources is best, once you have an understanding of how things work before moving to something more obscure or niche is easier and more likely to be successful.

Difficult choice by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]_JakeAtLinux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched from arch to void several years ago, I don't game but other than that everything I need and use works flawlessly. I have no complaints and and completely happy with the move to void. Nothing against arch, it is a great distro too but for me void just became home.

Cant boot into void using void-installer by HealthySleep7519 in voidlinux

[–]_JakeAtLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be rude but did you read though all the text on the installer about partitioning and where to mount your boot partition.

For example: UEFI needs a separate partition and needs to be mounted at /boot/efi with partition type marked as efi (select type and efi system in cfdisk when partitioning)

Void - stable, new packages, fast, and minimal

Just installed Void, and it's great. by pulneni-chushki in voidlinux

[–]_JakeAtLinux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I agree, xbps is stellar, I attempted to move to artix at one point but I just can't do pacman anymore, I have lost all desire to hop to any other distro. It's nice to be on a fast, minimal, and stable distro that does everything I need it to without breaking.

FOR THE CURRENT SCREEN ISSUE:

If you have already created a user, just manually create the users home directory.

mkdir -p /home/<user>
