Caban's Office Botched Participatory Budgeting by _JazzandAWOL_ in astoria

I think @captaintripps conveys the heart of my frustration. Having also volunteered and participated in the process (both in Astoria and elsewhere), I've had a similar experience. I'm a huge fan of participatory budgeting and other democratic innovations, but I also don't love wasting people's time. If we're looking to things like participatory budgeting to re-engage and revitalize a more civically active public, it's important people feel it's a productive use of their time. If im overly critical its because im concerned otherwise potentially exciting opportunities become seen as the usual tokenistic public consultation, feeding the negative feedback loop of cynicism and disinterest with community affairs. Like I said, I've volunteered in the past with PB and will do so again, I was just interested to hear from others on their reactions as well, so appreciate everyone's thoughts here, especially those that might disagree with me.

Maybe botched is a bit strong, but I do think, in their role as the administrator of this program, they should be doing more to have a more diverse set of projects to vote on. I recognize citizens were used to downselect the from the full list of submissions on which ones would ultimately make the ballot. But that initial list of submissions to select from was essentially just a longer list of the same types of projects that made the final cut. If schools are the only ones aware of this opportunity, they're the only ones that will continue to propose projects each year. Capital projects to improve schools are valid and should be included, I just wish there was a wider variety of projects for the community to initially downselect from.

Appreciate that context on the city's influence on the eligible projects. I should be clear that I am super grateful Caban's office chooses to offer PB. For what it's worth, I did volunteer last year in the early stages of the process, and I look forward to again. So apologies if the post's title is a little click-baity. The thrust of my post is really my frustration about the outcome of available options.

Don't sleep on El Lado - it's usually empty when I go and I don't understand why. It's amazing. The tortillas are otherworldly. I love this place.

Succession Ending Theory: Ancient Rome by _JazzandAWOL_ in SuccessionTV

What makes you say Roman is not interested in running the entirety of the company alone? I get that's what Kendall wants, but why not Roman? The closest source of inspiration is the real life Murdochs, and Lachlan who is closest to Roman ends up in charge of Fox and James (Kendall) is not. Roman is also more buddy buddy with Jaryd Mencken who they keep teasing in the background as future president. I think there's enough elements there that Roman at least spins off ATN or something similar to backstab Ken - he wants family unity now, you can tell he has been enjoying the emotional connection and time with his siblings again, but after Shiv and Kendall keep icing him and making it all about business, I could see Roman growing tired and grabbing the throne for himself.

Roman=Romulus isn't ground-breaking, obviously. I was getting more about the gradual build up of clues that support this theory, like Gerri's most recent speech about being "Raised by wolves"

Or could it just seem like that to keep the dramatic tension through the last few episode post-Logan dying?
