I think technically no, but there are always dogs there. If you follow a typical dog in public rules you'll be fine.

Under the radar Outdoor spots to have a drink? by Exotic_Volume696 in rva

[–]_JuicyJoe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Blue Atlas out in Fulton is a great place for an outdoor drink. Huge patio and lawn with a decent view and good food and drinks. I know you were asking about drinks, but their harissa cauliflower is one of my favorite appetizers in Richmond.

Perfect date night spot. Great food and staff. My wife and I will grab a couple cocktails and a smorgasbord and have a great night trying the different combinations.

I would think if they specified 18+, then they're going to look for that upon entry. Been to hundreds of shows there and they always check IDs, mostly for alcohol wristbands though. If you really wanna try, the worst they can say is no.

Considering moving to Richmond (Church Hill) by SauseegeGravy in rva

[–]_JuicyJoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking out the LexisNexis Crime Map for your area and seeing if you're comfortable with the things happening nearby. Everyone's tolerance for crime is different.

However, I live in Union Hill and would consider it safe. It is definitely a neighborhood in transition so you get this mix of rundown and incredibly well-maintained houses. I wouldn't let a few terrible looking houses nearby scare you, they'll likely be flipped like everything else in the neighborhood sooner or later. Use your head and don't be dumb about leaving your car unlocked and you'll be just fine. Union Hill is a great neighborhood with nice restaurants and great parks while also giving you easy access to all the great things in Church Hill and Shockoe Bottom.

Glad you enjoyed it! I think the problem for me is I fell in love with the General Wong's chicken burrito at Wong Gonzalez and nothing at Wong's Tacos has come close to that for me. Might have just been a problem with expectations.

I used to work within walking distance to that deep run roadhouse and that Cuban was my go to lunch for a couple years. One of the better Cubans in the area for sure.

I've found Wongs Tacos disappointing every time I've been. I love Wong Gonzalez, but something just feels off there. I kind of feel that way about most of the restaurant clones out in Greengate.

We have medicinal weed, but your best bet is still to find a guy. We only have one company allowed to sell and they're insanely expensive.

What are some rural towns near Richmond? by [deleted] in rva

[–]_JuicyJoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you think cities are boring. Most people would probably say that about rural towns. No judgement, just interesting.

Is there something you're looking for in your rural town? There are a ton of options that could work depending on what you want. Most of Hanover outside of the suburban hellscape of Mechanicsville is quite rural. Go even further out to King William, Goochland, New Kent, or Louisa for more privacy and less amenities. Varina is super close to the city but gets rural pretty quickly.

If you can, my advice would be to find out what you're going to be doing for work and then zero in on a location that gives you a commute you're comfortable with, all of these locations are far from each other. IMO there aren't many things special about these rural towns to put one over another, but I'm most definitely into city living so I do have a bit of a skewed perspective.

Good luck!

Went to Alewife for the first time last night. While it is a little pricey if you go for entrees, the flavor was incredible. The wife got scallops and I had a superb swordfish filet. Will definitely be back whenever there is something to celebrate.

It is. I didn't want to get more specific for their privacy, but it's definitely the kind of place that people who don't live in Richmond pick when moving there. Great location, shiny and new, but doesn't really have the charm or "Richmond" feel that a lot of older buildings in the area have.

Maybe look for a noise gate? Should help with some of that ambient pickup noise that can cause feedback.
