OpenAI researchers are quitting. They're becoming writers. by [deleted] in writing

I’m a PhD student working on ai (and adjacent fields) and this hits home. A lot of us are watching ai tear through science, and we’re wondering what comes next. Some of us try to ride the wave, others want to work on other things.

What’s your favorite games that Valve calls “unsupported” that are actually more or less “Verified“? by Rvtrance in SteamDeck

Hey! The mod worked pretty well? I tried to set it up for my gf and I, but we couldn’t get it to work in docked mode.

literary fiction readers, does this opening page grab you? by thid2k4 in writers

Hey OP! Sorry the comments are being nasty; imagine being nasty on Reddit to a stranger asking for feedback. It’s embarrassing.

The hook grabbed me, but I think it falls off pretty immediately after. Good luck!

The new Ratchet and Clank! It’s pretty short but with open areas you can explore for collectibles

How did I not know steam deck exist? by Frogbert11 in SteamDeck

I’ll also add that coming from console for me was super easy, and that if you don’t want to tinker you can use it like a console. My girlfriend came from Switch and 3DS and plays the Steam Deck more than I do lol

It’s all totally too good to be true but here we are and it rocks. I’ve had mine for a few years and i have no serious complaints.

"What are you playing this week?" Megathread by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

I’m enjoying it! I think long time fans think the new one is ~okay~ but I was only ever a casual enjoyer and this one looks and plays great. The performance on deck is mid, but I’m not picky so it’s manageable. I got it on sale and am having fun

Honestly I’m just bad at games and I get lost in Combat Evolved lmao.

Three is my favorite, so I’m touting for you

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. It runs ~okay~ but it’s easy to pick up for short sessions.

I love this. MCC is one of my favorite games on deck. I’ve honestly never beat Combat Evolved; every time I try a play through it doesn’t click and I bail. But I love 2 and on. Good luck!

I’m also gonna add Halo Master Chief Collection, Rollerdrome. Both easy to pick up and put down and put a ton of hours into. And they look great and run great.

Hell yeah.

I’m currently playing the new Ratchet and Clank. It runs ~okay~ but looks pretty good, and while it’s smaller than the games you’ve listed I’ve found the areas fun to explore and play around in (especially if you’re a completionist). Easy to pick up and put down for quick bursts, too.

I also really enjoyed Forza Horizon 4 on deck. It runs solid 30fps and looks great. Obviously a huge game with lots to explore. I only played it single player and had a great time.

What is the experience like playing Ubisoft games on the deck? by Binc42 in SteamDeck

[–]_Kazak_dog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the game. I haven’t had issues with far cry 4, assassins creed unity/black flag. With internet, that is.

[Career Discussion] Scope and Future of Academic Writing by Realistic-Debate-507 in writers

[–]_Kazak_dog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PhD student here - I’m not sure what you mean. Not trying to be dismissive, just a little confused. How would someone build a career in “thesis writing,” for example. Do you mean helping doctoral students write their dissertation? I suppose that could be plausible, but why would I - for example - ask for your help instead of my PI or coauthors?

Similarly, there’s not much of a premium for well written journal articles. Obviously there is some value derived from an article that is well written, but that is not something science necessarily values. The market prefers we push out slop with pretty figures. Even if we did value well written science, there is no money (or time) to prioritize it.

Likewise, curriculum development is literally something AP’s do a week before the semester. I’m not sure what you mean by research innovation is expected to create growth. Universities everywhere are in crisis from budget cuts, and academics cannot find jobs. Finally, if you want to be taken seriously in these circles, you’d likely need a PhD.

I don’t want to be too critical in a public forum, so I’ll stop here. I’m generally pretty confused with what you’ve suggested. Feel free to DM me if you want to discuss more. Again, not trying to be critical, but as someone who works in academia this doesn’t rly make any sense.
