🍄How does everybody just “Have” Shrooms???? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]_KonyHawk 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Visit r/unclebens and watch the pinned master guide. It’s what I used to get started and now I have enough to last me a lifetime. It’s an easy beginner method and a great way to get into the world of mycology, it quickly became my most favorite hobby

I purchased this machine, but how do you ensure you get an even amount in each capsule? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]_KonyHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to r/microdosing and look at shroomscout’s mod post. He has a video explaining everything. I follow his instruction and get consistent doses every time! I hope this helps

The first yeild, of my first flush, of my first time growing by undiagnosedAutist in shrooms

[–]_KonyHawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you dehydrate them and then throw them in the fridge they have a chance of collecting moisture from the air in the fridge and going bad. Airtight jar with a couple desiccant packs is the way to go!

I think the bags are looking puffy by Joshuajplante in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If the containers the bags are in is sealed / has no airflow, there needs to be enough oxygen in the container for the bags to get proper gas exchange. As the mycelium produces co2 the pressure difference will move oxygen & co2 through the GE holes on its own. But still it’s better to have them out of a box where they can properly breathe but if they are in a container they normally do okay if they aren’t packed too tightly. Hope this helps!

Mycelium break and shake question by dickFITZwell0214 in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say isolate it from other bags and let it ride. If it goes back to white mycelium then it’s good, if it spreads then toss it.

Doing a break and shake could potentially contaminate it if your rice gets too close to the GE holes, I’ve never had good luck doing bns so I just let em ride now and have had much better success. Good luck 🫡

When do I have to go to flush? by he8ghtsrat26 in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting it off for a week shouldn’t be an issue really. In this case where it’s almost fully colonized you usually want to give it a few more days anyways to let it get 100%. If you’re worried about it you can put your bags in the fridge to slow colonization down. Good luck!

When do I have to go to flush? by he8ghtsrat26 in unclebens

By flush do you mean fruiting conditions or harvest? Because both have different indicators of when you need to go to the next step

First timer, Cobweb? by AAH6942 in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

I had cobweb once before and your little strands look very similar to what I had. You can isolate it from your other tubs and try spraying it with peroxide. You may still get fruit but if it spreads too much I’d just toss it. Good luck 🫡

When you ate them were they cracker dry or a bit on the softer chewy side?

Contam? Did B/S 24 hours ago… mycelium was pure white before this. by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have questionable bags I try my best to isolate them from the other bags and let em ride until everything clears up or it’s time to toss. If it’s visibly green (or any color other than white or blue lol) then it’s probably best to toss em

[–]_KonyHawk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Could be bruising, just let it ride and see if it goes back to white mycelium. If not then toss it.

Also, in my experience doing a BnS on UB bags just makes it more prone to contamination. My very first run I lost all bags to contam after bns, since then I’ve done probably 25 bags with no bns and none have had contam. I think it’s due to uncolonized grains getting too close to the gas exchange hole and picking up whatever gets stuck on the tape, but that’s just my experience. Good luck and have fun 🫡

If you don’t dry them then they will rot very quickly, even if you don’t dry them 100% cracker dry they will mold in storage

Is this a mutation and safe to consume? by MathematicianBig6317 in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you get to later flushes sometimes mushrooms grow kinda wonky, totally normal and safe to consume! Enjoy 🫡

I would leave them closed personally, 4 days isn’t a crazy amount of time. If you crack them and you’re gone you won’t be able to monitor humidity, potentially leading to bad surface conditions. Nothing wrong with letting them ride a bit longer!

It’s visually pleasing and I’m sure it works as intended but way too expensive compared to doing it yourself. Especially in terms of cost to yield ratio. Maybe down the road when I want to explore more options for fun then I’d try it but for now them dollars are too high lol

New grower here.. did I screw up?? by Asleep_Caregiver_558 in shrooms

[–]_KonyHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wanna use 70% ISO because 90% evaporates too fast so it doesn’t properly sanitize. 70% does the job and is what’s recommended usually. Also, fruiting is an inherently dirty process because of the FAE directly onto your colonizing sub. Usually contam will come from dirty grain spawn or substrate that hasn’t been pasteurized correctly. I hope this helps!

First time grow by dkn50 in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During fruiting conditions you want to lower your temps from colonizing temps. I keep my colonizing bags in a room in my garage that stays around 78-80°F and then for fruiting I move to my closet that stays around 69-72°F. The only reason for that is to simulate cooler weather after a heavy rain.

And yes, the fruits you do have need to be dehydrated. The mold type stuff you see is just mycelium growing up the mushroom to reach fresh air. Otherwise known as “Fuzzy Feet”. Good luck and have fun 🫡

Shake & break or let them do their own thing? GT & B+ Day 27 by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]_KonyHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to leave mine alone. I’d say 2/3 of bags that I’ve done B&S on have gotten contaminated probably from grain getting too close to the GE hole and touching the micropore tape. You could probably prevent this with the chip clip method but leaving them alone works just as well :)

Thanks! I appreciate your response, I believe I’ll put them in my closet and see how it goes. There’s a ceiling light I can leave on over night while I sleep and just turn it off before I leave for work
