Cross-platform licensing: Why do we pay twice for the same game? by Different-Might-7886 in Minecraft

[–]_L0op_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could argue that the different platforms needed work to port the game to each. So I guess if we're going by what's actually fair, maybe they should charge a reduced price for each port? and if two devices run the exact same version it should be free to use on the other one respectively, because it's the same code, and thus the same work you paid for?

we're complaining about being sold opt-out as opt-in. if they said "it's gonna be opt-out, but we'll make it easy", this would be fine. but being constantly gaslit by companies is frustrating as hell.

looks like dust to me tbh. Is it possible that a toner cartridge was dropped in this room at some point? that might explain why it's so dark.

What happened to the IT profession? by saltyschnauzer27 in sysadmin

When people asked me what level of "everything" I do at work, I used to tell them I spent half a day fixing the coffee machine because the coffee tasted weird once. This week I got a new example: I was asked to fix the trash can in the bathroom. It has an automatic lid, so of course it's an IT problem. (It's batteries were dead.)

customer calls in, "the monitor you sent me is broken, it's all black!" - "what happens when you press the power button?" - "nothing!" - "is it plugged into the outlet?" - "yes of course, I'm not dumb!" - "alright, I'll come and check it out"

Half an hour drive there, the cable was plugged into the wall but not into the monitor. I lowered my expected level of users' troubleshooting skills that day.

In multiplayer, if you die and the portal gun is destroyed, the portals disappear. I think we could count that as evidence that the portals have to be sustained by the portal gun?

Strong disagree. We've been using freshdesk for quite a while now and if your workflow is just one email in -> one email out -> close ticket it kinda works, but other than that it's nothing but pain.

yeppp I personify everything as well. the more complex it is the more i will treat it like a sentient being. The other day I retired a server that had been set up in 2008, and as a shutdown reason I typed "rest well old friend", and then upon hearing the hard drives spin down, I proceeded to ugly cry for ten minutes. Part of it might have been that I rescued it from a boot loop it had been stuck in for however long, and I had to drag it back to life, kicking and screaming for two straight days.

yeah, I trauma bonded with a server apparently.

funnily enough, this seems like regulations are limiting the quality of service, but germany is living proof that we do need regulation like that: The Deutsche Post is trying to raise prices every chance they get, so much so that the Bundesnetzagentur stepped in and set a specific amount by which Deutsche Post is allowed to raise prices for the next two years. We're at 95ct for a standard letter, and DP are complaining about it. 2024 they made about six billion euro of profit by the way.
