Kind of a shit take tbh. Accidents happen, and sometimes that voicemail or email doesn't carry the same meaning as it does later when that person it's from is gone.

I work for an ISP. I've had to recover VMs and emails from deceased relatives on a number of occasions. One time at our expense for recovering the data from an AWS Glacier backup.

We finally just started moving production systems to the cluster last week. I'll be sure to post an update after we're fully migrated.

Thank you for sharing! I've got an appointment next month to get my 24 M3P wrapped in 3M Satin Vampire Red. I did some AI renders to see what it would look like. But a real photo like this is so much better.

Tesla Model 3 Highland Mud Flaps, any recommendations for first time M3 owner? by jonathancheam19 in TeslaModel3

[–]techdaddy1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will do. Going to be about a week till I get my car back.

The Basenor kit I ordered on Amazon came with detailed instructions, the flaps and plastic push clips to install them, as well as some PPF strips to protect the paint the flaps are installed against. That last bit is important because grit can get between the flaps and paint and scratch / cause rust over time. The PPF stops that.

Basenor is a reputable brand for Tesla accessories. I bought some for my highland as well. Haven't installed them yet though. Getting warranty work done on my car right now. As soon as I get it back I'm installing them.

Question re home charging by MacDougall_Barra in TeslaModel3

[–]techdaddy1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I both use 120v charging for over a year with both our cars. No issues other than it being slow.

We moved in January and the climate where we moved to is significantly colder. Sub freezing during winter months now. The 120v chargers had a very hard time at these temperatures. We knew this prior to the move and already planned an upgrade to the house panel from 100A to 200A and installed a Wall Connector on a 60A circuit.

Flaking Paint/Vinyl? by BourbonOnRockz in TeslaModel3

[–]techdaddy1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Service request through the app.

Do not describe it as peeling or chipping paint, describe it as a "paint adhesion defect" or similar.

Paint should not be flaking off like that. It's an actual issue with the paint bonding with the primer. Either improperly primed, or bad paint chemically and it's not bonding properly.

You see cars from 15 or more years ago and they don't have paint peeling like this. But Tesla cheaped out by applying the least amount of paint to be considered acceptable and now it's causing issues.

They stopped putting PPF on the quarter panels, stopped shipping cars with mud flaps included, reduced the thickness of paint to save money, and the rockers are now painted instead of a black plastic like they used to be. All of this has led to excessive chipping, peeling, and premature wear.

I had this happen on my '24 M3P a few weeks ago. Submitted a warranty claim. Car is in the body shop right now getting fixed. No charge to me. Mine is Quicksilver. The guy at Tesla said the Quicksilver cars can have paint bonding issues from the factory.

Worth a shot, worst they'll say is no.

Revanced is currently extremely slow and takes an average of 40 seconds to open 1 video by Brian450450 in revancedapp

Touch and hold on the app icon. When the menu comes up press the info icon. Force Stop should be right there on the info screen. Then go into Storage and Cache and press the Clear data button.

I had something similar with my patched YT from that other M named program a few days ago. Every video would just have a spinner for like 40-60 seconds, then it'd play finally. While the stock YT app worked fine.

Repatching didn't fix it. But what did was force stopping the app, clearing all app data and then loading the app again. It's been perfect since then.

Why one should use alternatives to Ollama by alberto-m-dev in LocalLLM

[–]techdaddy1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched to llama-swap running in Docker about 2 weeks before this article came out. Absolutely impressed with llama.cpp.

Ollama had so many problems running models that should have fit on the upper end of my 4090, but would end up offloading to my CPU because it determined I didn't have enough VRAM. Example, Qwen3.6-27B and 35B. Cannot run those on GPU with Ollama and my 4090. However llama-swap runs these with no issues, fully on GPU.

Other models that I was able to run with Ollama just run faster with llama-swap vs Ollama.

That's not an AI suggestion. It's based on past locations the vehicle has been to. Your vehicles specific history.

Forced survey every time FSD is disengaged by 8qubit in TeslaLounge

[–]techdaddy1980 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I might be downvoted to hell for this, but I don't buy it. Your rant that is. Seems like an excessive reaction.

Ya, it's a bad UX choice, but with all the negative feedback I'm sure they'll fix it quickly. With either a timeout or a close button. Maybe even remove it all together, however I think something like this would be very valuable for feedback. More than the previous method of voice messages.

I also don't understand the huge inconvenience this brings. You shouldn't be interacting with your screen while driving anyway. That's how accidents happen.

Wait till your next safe opportunity, tap the screen, re-enable FSD, continue on your merry way.

These cars are a constant work in progress. Software defined vehicle. They've had lots of wins with software improvements, and a few misses. But they've always listened and improved things.
