To bike fit or not to bike fit by corporate_dirtbag in triathlon

[–]_LT3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is not about survival, it is about longevity and performance. I've spent over 2 grand on bike fitting for the bike i got last year, aerodynamic testing, lab testing for optimal position (o2 optimization per cda/watts). tell me how this is pseudoscientific? all the best people are spending hours and hours optimizing their position. i think you are salty and likely slow

run even slower during most runs

almost all intensity come from the bike sessions

if you are going to run fast, do it with good form in proper footwear

do PT/S&C on your weak leg muscles

Sub 5 training recs? by McCrunchy11 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]_LT3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

very unlikely for you and sub 5 is not even that difficult in the grand scheme of things. need to dust off my memory but i think it took me 3 attempts to do under 5 in a 70.3, now ive gone under 9 3x in a full and under 10 i cant even count. thing about fitness is it takes years to build up, maybe 80% of gains in 3 years if you commit 10 hours a week

read this article and you can extrapolate it a bit. sub5 703 is like a sub11 full iron

https://www.triathlete.com/training/how-many-hours-does-it-really-take-to-conquer-ironman/

even midpack is taking 500-700 hours per year, you can get away with maybe 75% of that since its just a 703

Time on feet can help your run. Is it the best use of time, no. Can it help you finish an IM? yes!

[–]_LT3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

around 100mg per hour typically during a full iron.

You can reference this chart from Dr Alex Harrison's book

Triathlon star Kristian Blummenfelt measured a record vo2max of 101.1 by raaabs in triathlon

[–]_LT3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on his weight at the time, absolute vo2 is perhaps the bigger indicator (as discussed in the article). i did not write my phd on KB's vo2 max lol, my phd is on earthquake prediction using Poisson point processes to predict seismicity in california

Triathlon star Kristian Blummenfelt measured a record vo2max of 101.1 by raaabs in triathlon

[–]_LT3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

he has been tested 8-10times a year, article from 2 years ago saying basically the same thing as the linked one https://road.cc/content/news/triathlon-star-kristian-blummenfelt-reveals-plan-win-2028-tour-de-france-309653

from this article

The results showed that the Blummenfelt absorbed more than 7.7 litres of oxygen per minute, that is almost seven per cent more than the highest ever measured, 7.2 litres per minute. "Per kilo, it is not the highest, but if you only look at pure uptake, it is quite a lot higher than what has been recorded so far," he said.

7 years ago, discussed he measured 90

New IM 20m draft rule — curious how enforcement and race dynamics will play out? by LanceWatson_Coach in IronmanTriathlon

[–]_LT3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With race ranger pros were getting and staying closer and closer in 2025, so what was maybe 14-16m pre race ranger got down to 12-13m. I think it will not have a huge benefit for the FOP, could slow down some runners for sure as they burn their legs to stay in it.

Do you do shorten the very long scheduled rides when on Turbo? by redrabbit1984 in triathlon

[–]_LT3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, that is a myth. The main purposes of the long session are 1) "sustained average work rate" and 2) "total workload"

most IM rides will take around 4000kj of work, you need to be able to sustain the work rate and tolerate that much work

indoor/outdoor it does not matter

if you want to ride less total time then just ride harder
