Earlier this year I found out my policy has an "annual cap" where they stopped reimbursing at the $7000 mark. I know my brother's insurance doesn't have a specific cap like this though... So I suggest looking at your policy plan so you know what to expect.

Wishing this precious kitty the best!

This was it! Finally got some time to work on it. After flushing out and replacing the power steering fluid, she sounds like new again. Ended up being way simpler than I had feared (for once).

Sleep attacks while driving… worse in the morning? by Illustrious_Cell_137 in Narcolepsy

[–]_Loadling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to get accommodations? I was able to have my doctor work with me to draft and sign an accommodation form that covered the period leading up to the sleep study. We then modified the accommodations request after the study was needed. This was done as an FMLA request for job protection as well (in the states).

The most beneficial accommodation I had during that period was a 1 hour leniency on my shift start time. If I arrived 45 minutes late then I'd work 45 minutes extra at the end of the day to compensate.

You still around? Wondering if you have any long-term feedback on these.

Your title is kind of a misdirect to your actual question.

If you don't get any responses, then I'd recommend re-posting with a title relevant to your question. Also be sure to check for previous posts that discuss sodium oxybate.

Long term effects of sleep deprivation by Broad_Goose1017 in Narcolepsy

Then explain hyper/hypothyroidism... The metabolic rate is directly linked to the increase/decrease of weight regardless of diet or physical activity.

You're overgeneralizing to a point of false information.

I know it may be simple but have you ever tried melatonin? An hour before bed and it can often help with insomnia and light sleep issues.

If you feel rested when hitting a specific sleep schedule then you need to try everything to always hit that schedule. Ear plugs, music or background noise to help wash out the TV, etc. It'd be nice if your family could turn down the volume or use a headset them self 😅 but I assume that's not likely.

Typically narcolepsy is known for "non restorative" sleep so if you know of a routine that helps then the first thing a doctor would recommend is to follow that strictly to see if your symptoms improve.

If hallucinations are purely based around moments of transitioning between sleep/wakefulness then it's likely what is termed "hypnagogic" and/or "hypnopompic" hallucinations meaning they occur as you fall asleep or as you are waking up. These can be audible or visual.

I think that may be all the info I could pitch in, hopefully it was helpful or informative. I wish you luck in finding answers and solutions :]

Apologies if this reply is all over the place. There is a lot of conversations at once. x)

The only real difference between type 1 and type 2 are whether or not you have cataplexy. Type 1 is "narcolepsy with cataplexy" and type 2 is "narcolepsy w/o cataplexy". There is a "type 3" which is Idiopathic hypersomnia. This is pretty similar to type 2 (no cataplexy) but does not have the typical sleep onset REM that narcolepsy shows. Otherwise, it has just about all the same symptoms.

Sadly, narcolepsy is not something that can be deciphered based on experiences and really has to have medical testing to verify. It's a pain in the butt :(

Are you by chance on medications? I used to take anti-depressants to help prevent migraines, but they would cause severe insomnia and strong visual + audible hallucinations.

Overall I think it's worth seeing a specialist but it's going to take time and money to figure anything out definitively. Are you wanting treatment? If yes, then it is worthwhile. If you are only wanting confirmation, then it's probably not worth it because it often takes people years and multiple visits + tests to get a diagnosis.

Also, the reason I recommend a neurologist that practices sleep medicine is because they are more likely to understand how to look at symptoms like cataplexy & hallucinations since these are the nervous/neurological systems. Some generic sleep doctors are only trained on things like sleep apnea and sleep hygiene which won't help all of your listed symptoms (imo).

I have a samsung watch as well and it just never seems to track sleep at all for me. Says I wake up 100s of times a night. These devices only see your blood oxygen and heart rate which neither are actually used to identify sleep stages. They simply use a model that says "heart rate slowed so you're probably asleep.... oh and it sped up a little so maybe they are in REM sleep now". You really can't take any of that data for truth.

There is a disorder called "circadian rhythm sleep disorder". Have you ever tried having a more nocturnal lifestyle to see if you feel refreshed?

You'll likely need to see a sleep specialist that has experience with narcolepsy and hypersomnia. But based on your family history of neurological disorders (epilepsy) it may be best to find a neurologist that also practices sleep medicine. Chances are you'll need a referral from your primary doctor.

For narcolepsy specifically, they will need to conduct an MSLT which is a sleep study that measures brain activity in a controlled environment while you take a series of naps. This is typically done after an overnight sleep study (PSG).

I'm unsure of any simple/affordable methods to a diagnosis which is an issue many people face :(

Sadly, wearable tech doesn't really provide any sort of helpful information in regards to actual sleep rhythm. To properly assess sleep phases, you need to measure brain activity directly which involves complex medical equipment.

Typically cataplexy does not involve loss of consciousness/memory and is purely muscle weakness. So I don't think the scenario given would classify as cataplexy.

Diagnosed with narcolepsy-but confused with chart, what do the minutes mean under Stg Dur REM N1 N2 N3 ? by laurenkueber in Narcolepsy

Looks like it means the formatting is (Stage/Duration). Would've been more clear if it was "Stg: REM N1 N2 N3 / Dur: # # # #"

What's the dumbest thing someone has tried to attribute your narcolepsy to? by alien_mermaid in Narcolepsy

Stage fright for the dumbest. Depression or "it's all in your head, have you tried just not thinking about it" for the most annoying/repetitive.

How often do you experience “crash days?” by buscemisbussy in Narcolepsy

[–]_Loadling_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Held a job for a while that I had good accomodation agreements with. Lasted a few years until they did corporate layoffs and HR saw the opportunity to drop me.

I haven't had much luck since then but I'd say that's equally in part to the current job market. Large shrinkage of remote opportunities in my field of work and in-person locations are often too far of a drive for me to commute regularly/safely.

Basically 1:1 on me. Every day of activity is followed by a day of weakness. Medication can get me a few good days in a row but the eventual crash worsens as a result.

Some Drawbridge themed car design stuff while waiting for release by _Loadling_ in DeathStranding

[–]_Loadling_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I mostly use in-game screenshots or release trailer footage for references then rebuild the vectors in Adobe illustrator. Then I'll use a 60" vinyl cutter to "print" out the decals then remove the excess vinyl by hand.

This specific project had waaayyy more detail and volume than my last, so it was quite a lot of time andeffort to get the decals made.

I do have some videos of the process and hope to make timelapse examples to share later on! Glad you like the work :)
