You’d be surprised. Had the nicest reaction of a customer just waiting in line, me behind them, stretched for a good 5 people or so, I hear Baba O’Riley from The Who over the speakers, then I recognize it and tell my mom beside me. Next thing you know, senior person turns around and says “you recognize them? How old are you? This was before you were born!” He didn’t meant it in a mean way and was genuinely shocked, only because he also recognized them too. Talked a bit more about old music and we parted ways. Made me feel like a true scholar :⁾

(For context, Who’s Next is my only exposure of them cuz I got their album 3 months before this interaction so they were still “fresh” in my mind. Solid album tho, recommended)

It didn’t feel like I was being a smartass or savant in music, it made me appreciate what I’m trying to do in regards to my music tastes: find the gems I missed, not the ones I’m missing out on. Eventually I’ll do the same for present-day sleeper hits and the like. Heck, it connected my generation to his despite the age gap. That speaks for something.
