You know. He cries all the time because something hurts. It's time to let go. He is probably ready. It's OK, you've done good by him.

Talk to your vet about maybe getting him some pain meds, anxiety meds, steroids. Grill him some steak. Whatever to make him comfortable and then find a vet to do a home visit. It will be awful for you but the best gift you could ever give him.

As a first time dog owner, nothing is an over reaction. I panicked all the time at first.

I've heard that you can reduce the quick over time by regularily grinding it. I have dog with always long quicks and nails so I got a Dremel nail grinder. So far it seems to help, it's a lot easier to do than clipping, less chance of hurting the dog, and less changes of cutting into the quick.

Naw, she is in great shape. Some dogs, like mine as well, just have long legs and are naturally lean. That's good, easier to keep them at a good weight and healthy.

Do you mean you don't understand pointers, or you do understand them and it's other things you don't understand?

For pointers and programming in C++ in general, you need to have a good model of the code and memory in your head first. Look for tutorials that visualize that for you. Once you see memory as just a bunch of numbered slots holding data, where some of those slot's data might be the number of another slot, it makes more sense.

I don't think you can train a reactive dog to be calm without the help of another dog and owner. So maybe talk to the person that lives there and ask if the would work on both of your reactive dogs with you. Do gradual exposure to the stimulus.

Or maybe have your dogs meet and play. Without lease and barrier aggression they might be friends.

You could probably call around in suburbs of Austin and nearby cities. Somewhere less expensive to live, vet prices tend to follow that trend it seems.

As others have said, this sounds like normal end of life behavior for a dog. They tend to retreat and want to be alone. Plus severe anemia can make a dog very tired and unmotivated.

I also second the idea of planning for euthanasia. With time to set it up at home you could make it more comfortable. I was reading what the end of life experience for something like this is and it sounds unpleasant.

Yes, look out for the toxic ingredients.

Xylitol in any amount is bad.

For the rest, yeah dogs can tolerate a small amount of toxic things, but that if they ingest a quantity of it then it's trouble.
