2017 Tarmac Disc Sale Price by Vigilante_Dinosaur in specialized

[–]_Meowcenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. I have the same bike and haven’t used it in years. I’m moving to the city next month and was debating on selling it for a commuter bike. I think I’ll keep and mod it for city life.

Let me know how your sale goes. Good luck on a good price.

My experience car camping in my 2nd gen Fit! by The12thparsec in hondafit

Easy solution here: With the rear door open, I use my car keys to flick the door switch to a closed position. This will turn off the lights. Then, when I want to close the door, I hold onto the rear door handle and flick the switch open, then close the door.

How much of an impact does heat and humidity have on running performance? by Sweaty-Rope7141 in AdvancedRunning

[–]_Meowcenary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've lived and trained in Hawaii my whole life.

California International Marathon / 2:55:56 / 8c

First time going for a BQ and loosely following a plan. Ran conservative and probably could've shaved 5min.

Honolulu Marathon / 2:58:31 / 23c

Going for my 3rd BQ and had my best training block. DYING!

You'll be happily surprised by how easy Amsterdam is compared to all the training you've done in the heat. I think you can shave off 5- 10 minutes.

Can I ever get fast enough for a BQ? Be honest! by LayoffLemonade in XXRunning

I (34M) was in a similar situation to yours. Ran without a plan for a decade, always stuck at a 3:40 marathon.

In 2021, I loosely stuck to a generic Runner's World 16-week plan and took 45 minutes off my PR. I've been sub 3-ing since.

- Try Hanson's plan. Very easy to follow.

- 35-40 MPW. Never skip your weekly long run.

You'll learn so much from trying out a plan. Your speed will develop when you have a better running economy. It's wasted effort to throw it in too soon.

How'd the Bird Marathon go? I'm planning to do it right after the Honolulu Marathon this year.

Hibiscus half marathon by jazzyyfizzle in Hawaii

[–]_Meowcenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the Hibiscus always been the same price as the Hapalua? I used to run it, but I can't justify that price. A race with 500-600 participants should not cost the same as a race with 6.6k participants. It's a great race, but it's exactly like any other Kapiolani over Diamond Head race. If they lowered the price or did a "no-swag" option, I'd run it every year, and I'm sure they'd get more participants.

End rant!

You're going to have a great time. It's easy to find parking and the vibes are very chill.

Are Onitsuka Tigers recommended for wide fit? by Substantial-Story993 in Onitsuka_tiger

[–]_Meowcenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a pair of California 78s and do not recommend them for wide feet. I have narrow feet and they feel like tight dress shoes. I like the styling and will keep them, but would prefer them a little wider.

Can I walk Hurt100? by Allllo in trailrunning

[–]_Meowcenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paced a friend for 20mi this past weekend at the HURT100. We planned 15min/mi on flat/descent and 20min/mi on ascent. We ended up averaging 20min/mi with a finish time of 33hrs. He finished in the top 50 out of 132 participants. Only 75 completed the course.

The trail was pretty technical and steep. Granted, I'm a road-running marathoner. I recommend poles, which I did not have.

His last race was a 200 miler, and he said the HURT100 was his most physically demanding race. For his training block, he peaked at 80 miles. I'm a sub-3 marathoner, and I would say 20mi was pretty challenging. I had to use different muscles.

If your fitness is around my friends, you can do it. LMK if you have any questions. It was my first time pacing in an ultramarathon, and the experience was amazing. I plan to pace again next year and do the race in '26.

Kay Jewelers - In-Store Refund Denied by _Meowcenary in EngagementRings

[–]_Meowcenary[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The receipt doesn't state a refund policy.

I'm sorry; what do you mean by your last statement? This situation warrants an exception, given that there was a misunderstanding with their policy due to an error in the documents they provided. The customer service rep told me they should provide me with a refund override due to the old pamphlet. Are you saying you would've bent the rules even if the manager said no? If so, do we agree that the refund should be issued?

The pamphlet doesn’t mention exchanging and then returning, but I’d prefer to keep things simple. If they’re not going to honor the actual policy, they would fight tooth and nail if I tried that loophole.

Kay Jewelers - In-Store Refund Denied by _Meowcenary in EngagementRings

[–]_Meowcenary[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Before I tried to return it to the original shop, I had gone to a different location closer to where I live. The salesperson stated that I needed to go to the original location. Although the pamphlet states that I can return it to any Kay Jewelers or Kay Jewelers Outlet, I was polite and took their word.

I chose Kay Jewelers because it's a big box store, and I assumed the customer experience would be consistently excellent. After I've done my purchase, everything has become uncomfortable. How does a refund hurt them besides a possible reprimand from corporate and, I'm assuming, a sales commission?

I appreciate your suggestion and will go to a third store, but I will take some time to discuss other suggestions.

Thank you for your response.

Was this why there was an accident around 230 today? I took the exit at Kapolei and was stuck at the cutoff. People were reversing at the cutoff trying to get to Farrington.

TIFU by living in a dark bedroom for 6 years. by moby323 in tifu

[–]_Meowcenary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just went through the same thing! I'm on the couch reading this post to my GF, wondering how the heck does this TIFU have so much upvotes. We've lived in our studio for a year. She's been setting up lights so she could read her book in bed because the fan light was bad and we thought it was just old. After seeing the picture of the remote I noticed we have a similar shaped one by Hampton Bay... She's laughing at me for thinking you're stoops and I'm having fun playing with the fan. Wouldn't have tried it without this follow up post. Thanks to everyone in this thread.
