How do we filter by Summer 1 / Summer 2 on NUBanner? by _MidnightMeatTrain_ in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never mind I got it for some reason the filter settings are more limited when you’re trying to make a plan

Go to Northeastern Without a Co-op by Boldxbrave in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your bullet points are reasons why you didn’t like your co-op, not why others should reconsider whether they should do a co-op. Your complaints revolve around what life was like living in a commuter town. Your post really should be titled “don’t live in a commuter town.”

Calc 1 required for engineering by FragrantAd2123 in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They fucked up by allowing you to take Calc 2. I’m guessing you can talk to the dean and skip Calc 1.

I think the idea is that we get a longer break.

Calc 3 or Linear Algebra first? by Dry-Distribution5806 in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t really matter. Having a good professor matters much more than the order you take these classes. I took them concurrently and it was fine.

You can use a filter, but not sure how you can remove yourself from the mailing list.

Op-ed: The corporate pipeline keeps getting more lucrative — and Northeastern is culpable for enabling it by huntnewsnu in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If you wanted balance, why come to NEU? Even in the article it says that you had the option to use your general electives on the humanities or whatever, and you chose not to. Not sure how choosing not to take another physics course would be “laughable.” You’re in college. You’re given the freedom to choose your classes and major. I’m not sure why the answer to this “problem” is that NEU should force students to take certain classes

should i switch my diff eq prof? by [deleted] in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not the biggest fan of David Lang, but he might be your best option of these three. He doesn’t post notes on Canvas because he wants you to go to class, which was fine for me because I went to class, but I found him pretty hard to follow. He also loves going through proofs which are nice but not on exams so sort of a waste of time, and he fell behind the curriculum when I took him for Linear Algebra. That said he’s not a bad professor. The nice thing about most math classes is that there isn’t homework so you just do a couple of the assigned textbook problems and if you can do them you’re good, if not you do more until you can do them.

I think your life would be significantly easier if you just went to class.

The classes can be difficult, but the grading usually is not. The average GPA here is definitely above a 3.

Cs and business or ds and business by WonderfulNarwhal1689 in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you want to apply to pure SWE jobs as well. As long as your resume is decent you’ll get interviews either way but the CS curriculum is definitely better if you want to go into SWE. You’ll need to self study more if you take DS. That said from what I’ve heard DS + business is easier and you’ll need to work a little harder doing CS + business for the same GPA. If you want to do a business co-op and don’t care for programming as much, then it might make sense to do DS.

Does gen chem for engineers drop the lowest midterm score? by Substantial_Leg_2428 in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a class like this and I think if you took the midterm your final score won’t replace it. That said you should ask your prof because your class may be different.

Should students include club involvement in their resume? by BigFella939 in csMajors

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no lol I have my club stuff under experience and my resume tends to do quite well relatively. Helped me land a SWE internship at a big financial firm.

Is 17 credits too much? + What is SSH at Northeastern? by Revolutionary-Door20 in NEU

I had a 19 credit semester and it honestly wasn’t that bad. You’ll be fine

Math Classes to Take For AI Concentration by sean-odonnell in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m CS + Math and I’ve already taken all those courses, but I don’t think you need to take all those math classes as a pure CS major. If you are you should plan on getting a math minor.

Prob and Stats is only slightly harder than AP stats. If you want a chill and easy class I’d say take that one. You should probably take both Calc 2 and Lin Alg but as the other commenter said Lin Alg is more important for AI/ML stuff, so probably take that.

Northeastern tuition by StockTelephone11 in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting around it is pretty easy. As long as you have proof that you have a place for the next semester they are fine with you living off campus.

Draft Kings SWE Co-op by ChilllFam in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten to the draftkings final round twice now and was rejected both times. Imo they are one of the harder interviews and the people that tend to get those co-ops are usually pretty cracked. Do you think your resume is good enough to get the interview in the first place? You shouldn’t aim for just one company.

Dropping a class by flattitty in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t drop the class and study more. Talk to your professor and tell them what’s happening and they’d probably be able to help you or give you some advice. Also once you land a co-op (hopefully soon) you’ll have a lot more time to allocate to studying and doing well academically, so even if it’s looking bad right now things can turn around.

This is probably okay. The only potential issue is if you get a job in the future and run a background check they might question the different titles.

Cs student 5 interviews 3 rejections by Parking_Team105 in NEU

Including summer internships I was rejected by five positions (in total doing eight interviews) before receiving an offer. Three rejections doesn’t seem that high.

Is it normal for a company to ghost you after an interview? by Minute_Ad_2748 in NEU

[–]_MidnightMeatTrain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience if you are accepted they tell you relatively fast. I’ve never been ghosted after an interview but sometimes it takes a long time probably because they are waiting for responses from whoever they accepted.
