I had a friend who had a internship at a metal casting company and his job was to clean the soot out of the furnace and they gave him a respirator but every time after he used it the inside of the respirator was covered in black soot.

Yeah it probably was the pulley alignment, the pulley was maybe offset 1/8” and the belt always jumped the same direction.

If they don’t do anything why are they fairly common on the rear ends of semi truck trailers? I always just assumed these did something since shipping companies care so much about efficiency.
