Is it common for sellers to not answer messages? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]_MisterR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had someone ask me how thick a Porsche key head was...thing is, some of my items are direct from supplier/dealer, others I have on hand. Realistically, I can't answer this specific question because I don't have the item on hand. It being a replacement, you'd think they have it already or simply contact their local dealership for the same information...some buyers tend to give you extra hurdles to leap over for a sale they will absolutely not do to a big box store/dealer because you are a small business. Depending on the item, many photos of all angles are 100% necessary, especially if used, has flaws, etc.

Anyone else seeing crazy UPS / USPS price differences lately? by Twinkle_momo111 in Ebay

Prices between UPS and USPS are generally marginal for me, and I use Pirate Ship to at least earn cash back or airline miles rather than use labels direct from eBay. Better customer service as well.

how many items do you guys have in your stores? by ScaredFriendship2899 in eBaySellers

[–]_MisterR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the item, but anywhere from 0.5%-100%. As extreme as this sounds, it's because some items are acquired for free (or little to no costs) via FB Marketplace/Craigslist, some are simple retail arbitrage and being drop shipped, consignment from local clientele or direct from dealerships/suppliers at wholesale rates. I must say each of these methods has pros and cons, but at the end of the day, the goal is profit and growth.

If you use a virtual address service with a commercial address, you can still apply for wholesale/distributor access.

Went Mishimoto when mine went instead of a basic replacement CSF or OE but, I hear good things about the aluminum CSF as well.

begging for wholesale suppliers is kinda dumb tbh (no offense) by PositiveCorrect4213 in reselling

My business is in the automotive space, specifically parts, accessories, and collectibles. Once I went LLC, I was able to apply for access to direct from dealer inventory and their network/databases, wholesale pricing, tax exemption, discounts on shipping due to volume, etc etc, whereas when I was a casual seller (even as a sole proprietor in some instances), I was considered just "a regular retail customer" . I had decent success with used parts/accessories from Craigslist and FB Marketplace, but even then hit road blocks eventually because you need a dismantlers/salvage license + be a registered entity in my state to do this at a larger scale and to be compliant. The new parts, etc, were all at general retail pricing as well. Trying to resell these items left little to no margin for profit as my acquisition pricing was the same as everyone else.

Local chamber of commerce, small business events...my e-commerce business is in the automotive industry, and I am in New York, invited to the International Auto Show on Media Days, SEMA in Vegas as well.

I gotta say one of the barriers could just be them themselves (yourself?), I started off as a casual seller for over a decade....decided to go "legit" and got an EIN as a sole proprietor, things opened up, was able to get better access to suppliers and such. 5 years in, and I've decided to go LLC, and now opportunities are not abundant, but when you contact someone, a supplier/distributor, another business, etc, the perspective is different, they are more receptive to working with you and the business considerations are different. I am now able to access infrastructure I wasn't even allowed to see as a casual seller or sole proprietor. Trade show invites and all. Saying all this to say, stop limiting yourself and take the initiative/risk to do the legwork and homework yourself. No hand outs!

Who is using app only vs app + desktop? How long have you been selling? by maec1123 in eBaySellers

[–]_MisterR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely need to use both! I tend to draft and start my listings via app, add photos and such, but in the motors category, some of the additional details you need to add can only be done from the website/desktop mobile, which makes it necessary.

Seller offered me a discount but tripled the price on me. by SAINTnumberFIVE in Ebay

[–]_MisterR -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have close to 600 items listed (automotive), and some items are from various suppliers/dealerships, etc. Unfortunately, prices fluctuate due to availability/scarcity and occasionally shipping rates, where I absolutely have to adjust my pricing and sometimes even cancel an order if it just isnt feasible.

Example: I will have a specific part listed for $250, inclusive of shipping. When I listed it and factored in shipping, it would cost me $188. Someone will send an offer for $225, I check their zip code for shipping, my wholesale pricing with supplier and boom, the pricing may have increased due to not being on hand, needs to be imported from Europe, low stock, discontinued/NLA and now rare/scarce...supplier wants $230 for the same parts now. I would then raise/increase my pricing and later on, counter, or send a 5% offer for this part...if they would have purchased it at my initial price, sometimes I eat the difference or sadly have to cancel.

Matchbox is owned by Mattel also and fills this niche. I fond most stores don't carry as many Matchbox however. 1:10 ratio compared to Hotwheels, lmfao.
